    Re: This Memorial Day

Do not have a favorite web site . However, I did spend seven years in both the Navy and Army (never said I was smart) I was in aviation in both branches. Went in out of HS in 1955 and got out in 1962. Made lots of good friends and keep in touch with many of them. In fact after we leave Alliance we are going to Il and spend a few days with an "old" Navy buddy. We were 18 and aboard the USS Princeton as Squardron VS-21 members. Anti-Submarine. Was a big thing back then. Turned 19 in SE Aisia. Spent my last tour in Vietnam at age 24 in the Army in Helicopters. Still keep in touch with several of these guys also.

We tend to forget all the bad time and remember all the "Good".

        Re: This Memorial Day

        Craig,

Thanks for remembering that Memorial Day is set aside to honor those that have DIED for the freedoms we enjoy in this great country. Too may times these days, well meaning folks want to include we Veterans(I was USMC) that are still alive. Ordinarily, this would be a great honor, but we have a day set aside in November.

        Thanks again,
        Ken

                Re: This Memorial Day

March 1st, 2005 I retired after 29 years, 1 month and 12 days in the Navy. Just like Lee, joined after HS, spent 20 years as an enlisted and then joined the officer ranks as a Warrant Officer and retired as a CWO4.

Wouldn't trade a minute of it for anything and this memorial day I too will honor those that died protecting our freedom.

                  Re: This Memorial Day

Thanks, Bob, for starting this thread. My son just returned (Thursday) from his second tour in Iraq. Every day he was there Sharon and I prayed that he would not get hurt.

Politics aside, I really question weather the weapons of mass destruction/ better without Saddam Hussain/ bring democracy to the mideast/ save Bush's pride/ get the oil/can't cut and run justification we've been given is worth the sacrifice of anyone's son. Let's all pray this nonsense is over soon and everyones son comes home.

                    Re: This Memorial Day

Spent a little over 20 years in the Army and retired in 1985. Vietnam (1969-1970) at Quan Loi with the 11th Armored Cav Regt. Left the difficult way on an C-141 ambulance flight out as burn patient from a Huey crash (hit by ground fire near Fishhook region). I would not change my time in the Military for anything else.
