I had low iol pres, on my 75 hp. the a&p added a washer to the oil releaf valve and if was fine. He said thats how you adjust it by adding or taking out washers. I had never herd of doing that but he ashurd me it was a normal practice. I have a 90 hp now and the ai took out the valve to clean it and it had three washers in it. Has anyone else heard of such a thing??
Thanks robbie, I had pumped into the oil pressure tube, guess I needed to be at the oil temp. Hadn't thought about that. Will do that in a few minutes. Will let you know how it comes out. Crossing my fingers.
I have heard of, and actually had to do this. I had the opposite problem though, my oil pressure was around 50psi. We added washers to the "acorn nut" to lower the pressure. My understanding (and please let me know if this is incorrect!) is that the spring is part of a pressure bypass setup. If the pressure gets too high it forces the spring out and allows the oil to re-enter the resevoir. By adding a washer to the "acorn nut" you are relaxing the amt of pressure required to bypass. Removing the washer creates more spring pressure forcing the oil pressure to get higher to bypass.
When we first got the T, the pressure was even higher and we cut the spring to get it down. When I discovered (on this awesome list) how it was really supposed to be done, I got a replacement spring from Spruce and fixed it correctly.

Tribe, HAVE OIL PRESSURE ! THANKS Robbie. Adding oil into the heat bulb location worked immediately. At start up I had near 30# and you could tell when it actually picked up its prime. Jumped to just above 30#. After a proper warm up period, I increased the
rpm sonded good, looked good , then went full throttle, about 1900-1950. When I killed the engine, I increased the throttle opening by 1/2 turn. Didn't restart yet will do that this afternoon, but I would like to get 2150-2200 on static.
With the new SS exhaust, it sounds more like an Aeronica than a Taylorcraft now. It has been almost four months since I had it running. Again first spin after priming and it started. On the second start after letting it reast a while, no priming and first spin. Idleing at abot 600 RPM. Really sounds good.
Now going back together. May or may not need to add the bump on cowl, will see. I have them purchased if I need to add them. Probably another couple of weeks.
