PaulP, I sent an e-mail to Bill Reid with your military unit info, and asked if he was the guy you flew with. As soon as I get a reply, I'll pass it along.

Mike H, yes I did use sandpaper to get the rust off the struts, because I had some gravel-induced pitting which was corroding and I needed to get it all out. But, I used a "jitterbug" sander with not-too-coarse grit, which did not leave any deep scratches. The only other way would have been sandblasting, which could remove too much material. eventually I will take the struts off and have them powder coated, which I understand is a very durable and protective coating for the long haul.

BC65 I am glad to hear that your friend is recovering. Prayer seems to have helped, and I'm glad that prayers from your fellow T-crafters were heard loud and clear! I actually think the big fellow upstairs smiles on T-crafters a little more anyway... I can offer no other explanation for why I didn't roll my '46 up in a ball the time I landed at your airport in 1998 and got hammered by a dust devil right in the flare I was bringing it back from Michigan to Los Angeles summer 1998, and West Texas was particularly warm, even for Texas. You might or might not have seen it or remember it, an OK looking yellow T-craft with burgundy trim and an awfully sweaty, tired, and cranky jackass in the cockpit. I availed myself of your pilot's lounge air conditioning for an hour

PaulP, my buddy Bill Reid says he might have been sent to that unit on a TDY basis for a couple of months. He says contact him directly at < stingers (at) earthlink (dot) net > and perhaps he is the guy you flew with. I believe he did live in New Mexico, ELP, and other parts of the Southwest USA at various times if I am remembering correctly. I hope you can re-connect if you spent some time together back then.

(Bill, I was Temp TDY'd to the Cav for 89 days once but don't remember if it was B227 unit. I don't recognize Paul, tell him to contact me directly. )

Update on my friend Jim's health
Jim has been out of the Hospital a few weeks now, and he is back to his old self again. He takes several perscriptions, but he will make a COMPLETE recovery. The other day he helped me do some small maintenance chores on Manu Sina, and we went to his C-140 to check out his ignition system. It's good to have my flying buddy back, and this would not have happened without the prayers of the fine folks on this site.

Paul, I was a huey driver with 1/9th in '65-'66 at an khe--when were you there. Maybe there's a reunion out there somewhere (now that Sabrina's friend seems to be on the mend. Incidentally, he sounds like a lucky guy to have Sabrina as a friend!).
