  • Found new packings for main fuel valve

I may have found a supply of packings to repair leaking main fuel shut-off valves. I need to put a few more hours of testing on the ones I have found to make sure they don't leak. If you need one let me know and I will send you some for free to try out. If this turns out to be a good fix, I will make up some repair kits with the inner and outer seals and some fuel-lube for assembly.

Mine has some seepage....but I have been hoping it would just go away.

I have been extremely reluctant to mess with that valve as once it's off....... Not to mention that it is so EASY to get to.

Re: Found new packings for main fuel valve

I just repaired my main and wing fuel shutoffs because I could not stand the cost of the fuel seep anymore.

I rebuilt the packing per Forrest's advice, using waxed lacing cord slightly wetted with fuel lube. The lacing cord forms to the correct shape, snug around the valve stem as you tighten the nut. It is easy to do and works fine.

Also lapped the valve body with toothpaste.
Don't lap too much or the valve core can drop too deep into the valve body and will not engage the stops when the valve is reassembled.

      NO LEAKS ANYMORE!
      Best Regards,

Re: Found new packings for main fuel valve

I need one for the main shut off valve in my cowl tank. My new address is:

        Dell City, Tx. 79837
I have a Dell City P.O. Box because the Post Office won't deliver to where I live in Salt Flats.
