  • Has anyone put on a wing by themselves?

Of course, the easiest/fastest way to put a wing on is to get two buddies.
Has anyone put a wing on solo, and if so, how did you go about it? - MIke

Mike, you have too much $ and time invested in a wing to take a chance on doing some very expensive damage...that's what friends are for!! I like to have 4 guys involved...the 4th guy is a "floater" and sometimes you need him. Dick

      Mike,

I have attempted to put on a wing on my Mod 19 by myself. That had to rank with some of the dumbest things I have ever tried. Don't do it!!!! However, if you must, you will have to suspend the wing at the proper height and move the airframe to the wing. From that point on, it's a matter of getting everything lined up and held steady.

My best advise, get a couple of guys, and a couple of six packs. Put the brew on ice and let everyone know that when the wing is on everybody can kick back.
      Best Regards

        Mike,
I never tried it by myself and never will.I have done it with just one helper before and that was near impossible because there are too many things that have to be lined up at the same time. You need at least three people and yes a 4th to use as a floater in a great idea....even if he just holds the beer, you never know when you might need a little extra help.

PLEASE!! do it with at least three, if you let the wing move back, or the fuselage slide around with the rear butt pin in place you have now broken the rear spar and it cannot be repaired
Have a tip man , two butt guys and secure the tail with a stand or a "floater". YES if I was out in the bush and had to do it myself, I could think of something. But it is best to have help.
Bernard Pietenpohl could put his wings on by himself , that is why the butt attach fittings are up side down......( think about it). he could merely drag the wing into place with the tip on the ground, put in temporary pins at the butt to fuselage , then walk out and raise the wing into place on the front strut.

Mike, With three or four guys it only takes a few minutes to get the wing lined up and the bolts in place--
