  • tires and skis

My BC12D has tiny little valve stems that I can't reach to check pressure or fill without an extender. I've borrowed an extender that works great, but can't find one to buy. Does anyone know where I can find an aluminum extender, about 6 inches long, marked SCHRADER 4430?

Also, I've just bought a set of Federal 1500s. Does anyone have the assemblies to match the tapered TCraft axle to the skis?

    Thanks,

    Jack

    Re:ski bushings

Jack, maybe you can have someone machine you a pair of bushings.

While on the subject or tires, I was wondering if the Shinn wheels require 90 deg. valve stems on the tubes? I am having trouble finding an 8.50 x 6.00 tube with the 90 deg. stem so I shoved a straight one in (that really sucked!) it does hold air but I'm kinda worried about it breaking off while operating off airport.

A few years ago my buddy needed bushings for his taperd axles. we stopped by a little aircraft parts place and this guy must of been almost 100 years old told us to come with him down in the basement so we did. there was a box in the corner he dumped it out and it had 4 rubber bushings in it they were tied together. It had a tag on them that said federal 1500 ske bushings 1946 t-craft taperd axles. They were two dif sizes. they worked real well and has never had a problem with them.

Those extenders are in about any automotive shop to go way out through some of the newer wheels on cars. I also have a real narrow snout that goes on my air line to do the same thing.

            Re: tires and skis

I finally found the bushings and the flange part at Wipaire. They still have a few left, apparently from buying out Federal. I still need to find someone to machine the outer sleeve that fits into the bushing. One fellow want to turn it from a solid aluminum bar. It'd be nice to find a right sized tube of steel......

BTW, the bushings at Wipaire aren't sleeved, just the rubber. I talked with a helpful guy named Russ there..........

Please pardon my probably inaccurate terminology!

              Jack -

You could try going to an automotive store and buy a valve extender for truck tires. I have one and it worked great when I had my wheel pants on. They are something like $10. Of course, you'll need to remove it to fly.

thanks, everyone. I've got valve stem extenders that work well for the tires. My Federal 1500s arrived today, so the next project will be fitting them to the BC12D (and hoping for one more good snow storm this winter).
