I have a 90-8 cont in a 46 bc12d. It has a 4 quart oil pan on it. They make a 6 quart oil pan. I would like to get one. Will the 0-200 oil pan work? Dose anyone know where i can get one. The reason i need one is the motor runs just a little hot on floats in the summer on a hot day. My ai says that it will run cooler with the 6 quart oil pan. Dose anyone know how much cooler it will run?

I have thought about a screw on filter. I think i will try that. As of a oil cooler wher do you put one on a - 8 motor there is no where that i can see to hook one to the motor. Usualy there is a place on the left rear of the motor but mine dose not have the holes drilled in the case.Lance Wasilla AK

Lance, mine has the six quart sump. This last summer in 70-80 degree weather climbing to 7500 feet, I would show about 210 degrees. Oil pressure would drop about 10 degrees. Are the numbers similar to what you are seeing or do you have to shallow your climb and power back to keep temperatures in line?

Jim. My temp gets up to about 220 when climeing to 8,000 ft what i haft to do is stair step as i clime. The oil pres. also drops about 10. The temp runs about 200 at level flight on a 75 to 80 deg day. I would like to get that down to 180 or 190 if i can. Mark orderd my brand new nose bowl dang it was 700 with freight. Ive got to make new cowlings before spring. Also I have new tail feathers or should i say rebilt by alaska air frames. As soon as i get them on im going to put the vortex gen, on. You do have your work cut out for you!
The hot weather this last summer was a test for me at full gross and no wind. If the lakes were of questionable length,I made sure that they were at least 2/3 as wide as they are long. That way I could take off once I was on the step and at the start of the lengthwise run. I do not like a steady diet of that though. Takes away that extra altitude over the trees. Kind of like intersection take-offs. Leaves no margin for error.
Lance,the 180 to 190 degree temps you would like to see at cruise are the numbers I show. The larger sump should make a difference for you. Does Mark have the larger sump on his and if so what does he show? Hey Dick Smith how about you?
Nice day yesterday! I actually got to fly after work. Went and played in the swamps and lakes and trails. Therapy for me. Looking forward to the next two months. I sure hope the weather cooperates.

Jim mark has the 4 quart sump but he has a small oil cooler. His temps are real low 150 to 160 on a hot day. Im going to the cabin tomarrow going to make three trips with extra fuel and supplys. should be a fun day. Pluss i haft to shovel about 4 or 5 feet of snow off the roof. I have the week off so i can fly all week weather permitting. I also plan to bring my power ice auger up there this week ice fishing for pike is good there.Lance Wasilla AK

The bigger sump only helps if you run more oil. It's the extra oil that lowers the temps. (Same heat spread over more oil...)
The -8 case doesn't have the oil cooler pad, which is where the oil filter adapter generally goes. Maybe you could get a remote filter setup. The filter helps because it increases the oil capacity and also the surface area.
