does anyone know what the thread is in the axle ? I though it was 3/4" X 16 UNF-38. I ordered ordered some AN310-12 nuts but they won't go on, I have tried them on 3 different axles... no go.

The parts manual (here => http://www.taylorcraft.org/docs/Tayl...anual_1985.pdf) says on page 8 that the tapered axle takes an AN320-12 nut. It is about half way down the page on the right side.
I did a bunch of axle research a month or two ago and the L2 and BC12d have the same thread.
The thread that you mention does not sound exactly right but the nut does.
I am at the wrong computer to look up the thread spec but will look it up when I have coffee.
