  • What eats fabric airplanes?

I know cows eat fabric but what other animals eat planes ? Deer? Horses?
The reason i ask is that im going to be away for a couple of months and my T will be left out in the yard and there are deer around here.

Deer eat model airplanes lost in the woods for a while, they love dope & fabric. Maybe fence her off. Actually around here Forrest eats deer so maybe it will be a fair exchange.

          1. Horses might! Our gelding got out the other day and chewed right through the paint (down to metal) on the inlaws new cars #%*$$$$!!. Around the areas where the salt from peoples hands had been.
          2. Mices might! One had been right through the left wing of the BL longways taking out a ribstitch here and a ribstitch there yum. The repair for this is not pretty.
          3. Buzzards might! They tear the shingles off of houses around here.
          4. Deer probably won't, unless they find some salt. (see # one), If it's not antler rubbing time ........... but maybe; if somebody with a grudge ........naw... leaves an estrus lure in the plane;-o
Lions and Tiger and DEER!......... oh my............

Well, if you're willing to take a liberal definition of 'eats your airplane', then according to insurance companies, hail storms cause the most damage to fabric - Mike

                Re: What eats fabric airplanes?

Here's a portion of the minutes from the Airport Manager's Office at Merrill Field in Anchorage..."The airport Manager’s Office received a report of raven damage to two aircraft. Dave encouraged aircraft owners to report all raven damage along with the repair cost. This information will assist USDA Wildlife Services personnel so as to justify their taking of these bothersome birds." Ravens have been observed dining on insects crawling around on fabric planes...when the bug runs inside a fabric opening, the savvy bird just opens the fabric in the right spot and eats the little critter. Ravens seem naturally curious and will tug and pull on anything, so they will mess around with planes tied down out in the large open areas of the airport, possibly just for something to do, while digesting the rewards of the last dumpster dive. Also, at Kenai, Ak., you can occationally see a couple of local police officers making some really nice wingshots on seagulls that insist on hanging out in the flight path of the airport approach. Dick is so right about the Ravens!

Watch out for any goats. They like to climb up on to tail feathers and once the damage is done they love to eat the damaged fabric. My uncle had this very thing happen many years ago on a newly recovered PA-20. Needless to say,the goat paid.

Here's another way to get your bird beatup!!

                    Byline: Reuter

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Two young bull moose trying to shed their antlers have caused $20,000 worth of damage to small planes parked at Anchorage International Airport by banging their heads against the aircraft.

Owners of small planes parked at the airport's floatplane center have found their aircraft dented, punctured and scratched.

Biologists are planning to shoot the bulls with tranquilizers and remove their antlers, either by shaking or sawing them off.

Norm, I think your airplane is gonna be safer if you keep it in the air the whole time!

Well, if you guys cannot find the skyhook, i saw a similar one on ebay in a obscure corner of the internet. Looks like it will fit just fine, but there is a conversion that needs to be completed before the skyhook will attach to Pre-war. Faa says that a field approval may just happen if you are good looking enough, and of the appropriate political party..but not if you are in favor of aerial wolf hunting, ANWAR or CESSNA. And the last I heard, the taylorcraft brick was undergoing a 337 for flaps.
