Re: Playtime in alaska
Yes, I've got skis on my plane now and it's sitting out on lake hood. We're finally getting some snow in Anch. too, so it should smooth out Lake Hood some. I'm going to the Peninsula this weekend though, and then next weekend down to AZ for a few weeks. I can fly next week though if the weather is good. Steve

Re: Playtime in alaska
When landing on snow with a crosswind, the danger of cocking into the wind on roll-out looks like it might be a strong possibility. But the direction of travel would continue down the 'runway' and the sideloading on the gear would be slight, correct? - MikeMike Horowitz

Re: Playtime in alaska
Mike, snow has good resistance to that tendency. Ice can be the problem. if you have to land in a crosswind situation in icy conditions you can taxi in a controlled "crab",but a snow drift or gravel or any obstacle can ruin your day. a nice smooth lake in the perfect conditions is good practice weather vaning and power settings to go where you want. Unforunately perfect conditions are a rarety. To answer your question Mike.,the answer is yes,but only on smooth ice.

Re: Playtime in alaska
Mike, Jim hit the nail on the head exactly...my jaws start tightening up anytime I'm sliding sideways on skis...the gear/axles are not designed to handle much from the side...I would rather hit something head-on and bounce several feet in the air, than slide sideways and hit something that will catch the edge of the ski. Re: Playtime in alaska
Steve i was at marks the other day he said he could get the 26' goodyears for the t-craft approved with no problems. The lakes and rivers are in real good shape from willow west not windblown and no overflow. they all have snow on them. The lakes closer to wasilla are glare ice from the wind. we had about 60 mph winds here in wasilla. Jim hows your lake? Dick hows the lakes on the kenai? We had to use the cub to haul fuel out to rainy pass 30 below mon and tue in the skwentna area. My throttle was frose up on the t-craft. Ive had this problem before not shure how to cure it some how just a little water gets in the accelarator pump part of the carb when it freezes and i have had it freeze in flight you cant move the throttle at all. Ive had the carb at the carb shop 3 times before. I think its coming from spray from flying on floats all summer. Anyone got any ideas?Lance Wasilla AK

Re: Playtime in alaska
Good news! It was just the throttle cable that was frozen had to have it taken out and taken apart and cleaned and lubercated. works great now. I have a few days off going to make a few trips to the cabin and mabe haul some more fuel.Lance Wasilla AK
