  • new pics in photo album

I wanted to share a few pics from my photo album.

Here is how I keep the tailwheel steering springs from coming off the tailwheel. I tried all sorts of combinations; compression, tension with & without chain, and this so far is my favorite way to go. *Note the black rubber hose running through the spring*

The second photo is of a modified/beefed up inner gear leg strut. I would like to do something similar because both of my inner struts were slightly bent back when this my plane was flown on Ski's years ago.

    Re: gear beef-up

Jason, this pix shows a plane working the Iditarod...you can see the short braces made of round tubing. Much lighter than sleeving with streamlined tubing over the full length as in your pix or replacing with heavier, larger tubing as I did. Also much easier and quicker to do. If the bowing is slight, the short tubing brace can help the streamlined gear member return to its original alignment. Dick

Got it. Don't know why I hadn't been able to before, but tried several more times and it finally worked.

Dick... I have seen gear with those mods on them before. Wonder if a 337 is needed? But what I realy like is the large rear windows on that T-craft. I would love to have more windows!!

              Re:gear bracing

Jason, On the gear shown in the pix I sent of the braced, streamlined tubing...I would think it was done via a field approval; I'm not sure on that particular plane. On my own bird, it was field approved. Here is another pix showing a typical brace...and a couple of "window"s. Dick

Jason, I was looking at your pictures and ran across the one showing your wing root fairings. If I recall right you questioned why the wing fabric was glued to the fuselage. Whoever installed the windshield did not do it right. The top of the windshield and the top of the fuselage should align with the top of the wing. If you go to the gallery and pull up the pictures of the removal of the straight back and the reinstallation of the greenhouse and look at the pictures on page three, the picture in the center of the page shows how I took care of the reverse problem. On that ship the windshield was lower than the wing by a half inch. By using a shrinker and stertcher I made custom cuffs to seal theleading edge. Dick (the album is called 'fastback to greenhouse')
