  • Torque wrench calibration

    Hi all,

Where do you folks in the South Eastern US send your torque wrenches and torque screwdrivers to be calibrated and tagged?

I have been sending mine to ND wondering if there is a more nearly local place to send.

I think Atlanta is closer than ND, the repair station I work at has an NDT department and does all kinds of calibrations including torque wrenches and screwdrivers, gary

          Re: Torque wrench calibration

Epps Aviation at PDK airport (Atlanta, GA) has an NDT and calibration department. We've had torque wrenches done there in the past. They have also done T-craft strut inspections for us (ultrasonic) and ultrasonic inspections of propeller hubs. I was checking on them this morning as our T-craft struts are expired and the girl we used to work with there has moved to Wisconsin. I believe they still have those capabilities though. It's about a 90 minute drive for us. Was hoping to find a closer place.

Yes, the lady moved on, but the calibration department is still going strong, they just did some cylinder AD's for me, sounds like David as lots of recommendations closer to him than Atlanta, if there is someway I could help you out let me know, I work at Epps Aviation, gary

              Thanks all,

I checked out Precision Measurements Company in Raleigh. $40-$65 per wrench. $40 if you want the tag only, $65 if you want the data too.

In past I have always gotten both but no longer, I have never even looked at the data sheet.

                Re: Torque wrench calibration

Ok, my post above is not accurate anymore as Sarah Hansen moved to Wisconsin and Epps no longer has capability to do ultrasonic inspection. I found a place in Marietta, GA (north of Atlanta) that can do multiple kinds of NDT and have an appointment scheduled for Friday to get the T's struts x-rayed. Not sure if Epps can still calibrate torque wrenches. It was a different person that did that.

                  Re: Torque wrench calibration

Epps still does the calibration and NDT, Sarah was an employee there, but when she moved on, another NDT guy, who has more experience than Sarah is in charge of the department now, also I took my struts to the place in Marietta for the check when the AD first came out, I'll check tomorrow if the department still does ultrasonic inspection, if you saw Sarah in person, she is nice, kind of yellow hair, sort of a big nose, when she was pregnate the mechanics called her "Big Bird"

                    Re: Torque wrench calibration

I spoke with the NDT department at Epps today. They do not have x-ray or ultrasonic capability. They can do a few other types of NDT.
Regarding Sarah, I've met her several times as she did both prop hub and T struts for us from time to time.

I'll report on how the strut inspection goes with the new company we're going to.
