  • Ice thickness update

Alaska Tribe...How goes your lake ice?? North of Kenai we are showing 12 inches of good ice with about 3-4 inches of snow...slick conditions...dry snow over wind-polished ice. Dick

Dick.. I landed at my cabin yesterday, not sure of the thickness, but two weeks ago it was 6 inches with three feet of snow on the ground , the lake was overflow that is hard now.

Haven't been out yet to ground truth the conditions near Fairbanks. Plane's going in for float removal and upgrades this week. But there's overflow spiders on the ponds near town as it's been mild with 46" of snow so far (some's melted, settled, and sublimated). It finally hit -25F last eve so that'll help freeze and make some ice. Overflow ice makes a mess of surface water during the spring melt.

Here's some estimates of snow depth across Alaska: http://aprfc.arh.noaa.gov/sd_all_sites.html
