Yeah, the guys in Alaska have strapped on skis, so they are all set, but I'm talking about the lower 48.

Forrest made a comment the other day about going out and plowing, which made me think - for a non-hard surface runway, what do you do when you get 4" or greater? Do you think he's plowing down to the grass? - Mike

Yes I have plowed grass for 34 yrs. we used to pack it down and roll. This way we get a God given hard surfacde for a couple of months. pics to follow next week. plus i AM PUTTING THE SKIS ON THIS WEEK-END....

I've lived on a grass runway for the last 27 years. We keep it plowed down to the grass. For us ski pilots, we use the taxiway. Another grass airport about 15 miles from us plows about 1/2 the runway, leaving the other have for us ski pilots. Works great.

Sorry I have forgotten all the new fellows. At the Barber Airport ; We alternate each year plowing the runway , then the taxi way. AND we always keep the area east of the pumps for ski ships. We just use the field where we park the Tcrafts each year for a landing & t-off area ( runway?) You can take off directly into the wind a lot of time. AND as the snow gets "sticky" I use the area up next to the woods in the shade where the snow stays firm. then Alaska guys know all about this kind of stuff...... pics soon.
