Last night was to be "date night" with my wife. She decided she had not flown for awhile, so dinner could wait and take advantage of a beautiful evening sunset and me to get practice with 12mph crosswind on pavement. I was all in with some concern about the crosswind. Get to the airport to find the plane out of the hanger and my son and daughter had washed it and waxed about half of it.
Does this seem like a Twilight Zone episode to anyone else? Wife and I flew to Letchworth Gorge, NY (my 12 yr son calls it the Grand Canyon of the east). My wife got these shots on her phone and was real excited to see balloon activity, especially the one that touched down in the water near the Glenn Iris Falls.
We and the plane survived the landing back at LeRoy 5G0 despite the 12 mph wind now being directly across the runway. Fortunately Taylor is pretty forgiving compared to many and I was determined to NOT let the upwind wing come up and 3 pt was the landing of choice. It went well on the centerline, tailwheel and upwind wheel touching at same time, then the lesson in "taylorcrafts fly", because after a few seconds the mains went back in the air but tail still on the ground, but hold the crosswind correction and gently back down. My wife was very happy but couldn't resist joking "both of your landings were nice but the next time get me more flying in and go around the pattern twice too".
Enjoy the pics
