      Re: Looking For L2

Ron. Lee Dautreuil in Louisiana here. Looked at the L-2. Think mit is a little over priced for me. Was recoverd in '72. Long time. Not for the fabric, but for the tubing, and the wings. would need to get in there and remove the fabric to do a complete tube and wing test. Other than that, looks great.

I am also looking roe another L-2. Project would be nice. Short of that, I am thinking of the Wag-Aero J-3 trainer/L-4 look alike.

        Re: Looking For L2

Anybody familiar with the one Roy Goode sold about a year ago to a fellow that just contacted me needing some parts....says it is an L2-M with spoilers installed. He is e-mailing numbers on the ship....

          Forrest:
I saw that L-2 as it was slowly repaired from a bad crash. I believe it was in Roy's hangar for 2-4 years. From what I saw, it seemed to be authentic. Was it pranged again or what?

No , new owner likes it but seems concerned with paint cracking & leaky fuel tanks. He is new member of Foundation and sending me stuff right now... thanks Chet .

              Re: Looking For L2

Lee, I agree with you about the length of time the fabric has been on. I re-installed the greenhouse on the "Chipmunk" last spring. The fuselage turned out to be in excellent condition. I had the fuselage open from the firewall aft. I did not open the wings as it wasn't necessay for the work I was doing. I did find evidence that rib gussets were coming loose (which confirmed what Forrest found some years ago). I told the owner that the aircraft would need to be recovered within two years. I could not find any problems looking thru the inspection covers. The cover is Ceconite 101 and is in excellent condition. The cover was done in 72 also. Dick

Dick, I'm confused. Are you speaking of the L2 on Ebay in upstate NY or a different plane? Thanks, Nick

                  Re: Looking For L2

I am looking for an L2 and I would appreciate any advice regarding the plane on Ebay. I have talked to the seller and it sounds as if he bought it 3 months ago and is flipping it quickly. I don't know much about fabric covered birds, (I have a Bonanza currently) and am concerned about the previous comments regarding the age of the cover job. Thanks for any and all advice

                    Re: Looking For L2

Nick, Lee and I were talking about the plane that has 32 year old cover. As I mentioned the L-2B that I put the greenhouse on has fabric the same age. I really don't like to see fabric left on over twenty years. The covering will last longer but, you can't determine the condition of the wood and metal under it. A really crisp L-2M with new covering should bring 35,000. In today's world a complete recover job will cost about 15,000 not including any major repairs. Wish I could help you but I no longer do total restorations. Dick

                      Nick,
I do total restorations and I can do a pre-buy for you if the bird isn't too far away.I'll look on ebay to see where it is located.
