  • Found-Current Production Glove Box Door Handles

    Hey all,

David Wenglarz, the guy who reproduces many metal Taylorcraft parts, found the correct glove box door handles for our planes.

A friend of his brought over a catalog for new production parts for old Chevrolets. As he was thumbing through it he found what looked to be correct, a 1940 Chevy ash tray handle. He confirmed the distance between the mounting screws and found it was an exact match. He ordered two and compared them with the original one he still has. They were a perfect match with his original and in the ivory color.

Thanks Marty and Dave W. Just ordered mine. These handles and my new leather covered banjo wheels will really make my all black panel pop!

Well Hank that will save you a lot of work trying to make them, and only $14 each. If they find out they will fit an airplane they will be $25.

Where can you get the banjo wheels recovered in leather?

                Marvin,

Too late, David told the guy it is an exact match for the Taylorcraft glove box door handles. Hopefully they don't ask airplane prices for them later. Lol!

Re: Found-Current Production Glove Box Door Handles

Well, I ordered my door handles and found they were back-ordered. Hmmmmm......must be a run on 1940 Chevrolet ash tray handles of late. The very nice gentleman who took my order told me they sell quite a bit of items to aircraft owners. They don't seem to have a problem with that.

As a side note, call in your order rather than doing it online. They want to charge you UPS prices when ordering online which were quite a bit for two small handles. They instead ship via USPS Priority for a bit cheaper.
                  Cheers,
                  Marty

The handles arrived today. A little pricey but nicely done.
