  • Restoration project question

I've been thinking about doing a restoration project down the road on a vintage plane. Question: Can a person who is not an A and P redo a plane? I realize the need to consult with someone who knows the type of plane. What is the process for a non-A and P?

    Thanks

Find a AP/AI that you can work with to do inspections and sign off keep him in the loop and dont do any thing with out his approval. This is how I have been doing my stinson.

      Good advice.

You may want to investigate A & P options so that you can match the aircraft with the A & P's

      experience.

Assure Record Entries are done as the project moves along.

Leaving paperwork & finances till completion often

has an unhappy ending to the relationship.

          And…
Keep a detailed log book which can become the basis for getting your own A&P someday.
          And…
Keep the 8130s and part numbers and serial numbers and everything that even looks like a number so you can document any AD that may pop up as you learn more.
          And…
Join the type club for the project plane.
          And..
You can't get enough photos during teardown
          But…
Having a good A&P to work was is the best advice.
          Best Regards,
