  • 0200 into a BC12-D?

Hi tribe, I had a recent prop strike and was wondering if there is an STC for installing the 0200 into my '46? I have the long engine mount already so installing it will be easy. C-85 cranks are impossible to find and I don't want to have to mortgage my house to get Don's Dream Machine's to build my engine. Also is there anyone who can check/straighten the engine mount and landing gear. I had the gear checked/aligned many years ago but I don't remember where. Thanks for any help you can give.

I think Wag does engine mounts, not sure about the rest.

Terry is currently working on an O-200 STC. I have a couple C-85 crankshafts, if you're interested in tearing your engine down for the prop strike inspection.
1940 BC-65 that needs minor work...

        Carrieve,
I have crispy critter(my taylorcraft) approved with an 0200 on a stock short mount with 1280 gross. It is a one time STC, took me an act of congress to get it approved the first time, but since then 2 of my friends have used it as previously approved data to do it to theirs and was approved with no problem. Your welcome to a copy if you like. You might even talk with terry to get help with approval.

As for the long mount, I don't recommend it unless you want to go up to 1400 gross. It really does change the way the airplane flies completely. Before you decided to install the long mount(unless you already had it to start with) go find someone who has a long mount taylorcraft and get a ride. They are still sweet but no where near the same airplane. Sme people like what it does to the handling and some people don't.

....also, wag aero for the mount, I think they can also do the gear, but if not, univair can. Just be ready to break open the piggy bank if you send them to univair, lol. It might not be too bad if all they have to do is check them.

Kevin.. I would like to have a copy of your one time STC , I've gotten it field approved in the past and on a 1940 model, but that's not going to happen today. I think I could put it off with a one time STC.

Kevin. Is this truly a One-Time STC or a 337?

                  Terry,
I will have to look again but I'm pretty sure it is a one time STC. I will need to double check that to be sure.

                    Hi Kevin,
I have had the long mount in her for 35 years and I like it. Battery in the back on a large floor/shelf helps the W&B. starter and generator makes it nice.

I can fly them down to Wag as that is close to me here in Wisconsin. Thanks Crispy. I will give them a call on Monday.

We have a one time STC for an 0200 on a short mount (modified slightly) and it was a very extensive process. We've put about 750 hours on it with no issues. I think it's a good option for the T. Supplied the info to Terry. Not sure how far away he is from getting an STC approved but think it would be popular. That was for a BC-12D

I should note that in my experience, a bigger engine on a T gives better take off performance but doesn't really affect cruise that much. A Taylorcraft is about 100 mph airplane despite what engine you bolt on.

Take a good running 0200 and swing a McCauley 74/45 metal prop at 2400-2450 and see what your cruise speed is.....you'll also be very surprised with your ground roll and climb performance.
