  • Bries NAS-3

I tried to find where I put the comments on my Carb. but I can't find them, and I promised to keep you guys appraised of the situation.
When Dave, (the A&P), disassembled the carb, he found two things.
First the casket that seals the top and bottom of the Float bowl was cracked in several places, and just fell off the carb in three pieces.
Second, the jet for the float valve had a slightly different angle on it's face than the one on the float needle. (Rubber)
He thinks that the problem was due to the gasket.

    Your thoughts??

Get rid of the rubber and go to a stainless steel needle. I like the rubber-tipped ones for sealing but they harden over time, the new ones are made overseas and seem to be junk and if you run auto fuel and get a load of ethanol the rubber-tipped ones can swell and cause problems, such as over-rich by allowing more fuel to flow into the bowl.

Other than that, I have no other opinion if that is causing your problems. Does your A&P have the tools, gaskets and know how to set the float level now that you have it apart?
    Cheers,
    Marty

The "jet" for the float valve is called the seat. There are different seats required for the different needles. Several of the antique/classic type club websites have good write-ups on this. Attached is a picture of the needles with notes referring to the seats.
