  • 1992 F22A Taylorcraft wheel Pant mount fittings # 1103

Just curious if any of the owners of the F22 Series have had any problems with the wheel pant brackets,
after a short flight, I landed and checked my right wheel pant, which was slightly pointing down at the
back, it didn,t look right ,put it in the hanger ,and noticed the bracket was cracked ,removed the wheel
and repaired it,removed the left wheel but the bracket on the left side was good,so wanted to mention it
here so the pilots, would be aware that this happens, and maybe ,can check and see,if there brackets are ok,
I noticed most of the pictures, of the F22A in England is being operated with the wheel pants off in its pictures,
I just was curious, if he had a problem with the mounts, any way here are a few pictures, of the area, couldn,t
figure out how to submit pictures of the damaged mount.

      Hi Cubby,

There are no wheel Pants fitted to my F22A and I suspect there never have been as the aircraft was flown from the Factory straight to the UK with it's Tail Dragger sister the parts of which are in my garage following an insurance "write Off" and there was no evidence of wheel Pants on that aircraft either.

I suspect the lack of wheel Pants may be the possibility of having to land in fields or on poor terrain? My F22A has two small metal strips which appear to be possibility connected with wheel Pants on the inside of the nose wheel leg but there is nothing on the other two wheel legs.

          Paul,

Thanks for the Info! Every bit is useful especially if you could find out who flew the Aircraft together with her F22 sister to the UK? I don't know if The Brittania Aircraft Company is still in Business if so they may hold the clue? There is nothing in the Aircraft logs which helps.

          Thanks again for your interest.

Well your right ,it sounds exactly the same, but if there telling the truth, about having the tooling, to manufacture the parts, it may or may not happen ,but any approvals,
do in some cases ,take years to get approved, threw the F.A.A. ,I guess im, just hope full ,as some of the fellows, would have parts, instead of having to make parts ,but
hopefully it happens, i went to ALLIANCE Ohio, in the 1970s, when i rebuilt my model 19 Taylorcraft, and was very impressed, the way she run her company, and the dedication
she had the the Taylorcraft, she was a great person, and i bought parts from her to finish my Model 19,to bad she still didn,t run it,i guess we,ll just have to sit back and see
                have a great day sir.

                  Cubby,

My F21 has wheel pant brackets which cracked over time. A little weld fixed that. I see you have a skylight. Any chance you could PM me pictures from the inside of the cabin so that I can see how the skylight is finished from the inside. I want to put one in my plane and I'd like to use a "factory" look.
