From the Cedar Rapids Gazzette 7-24-2013 A November plane crash that left a Traer man, and later his passenger, dead outside Cluitier was likely caused by power lines. According to a National Transportation Safety Board report realeased this week, 69 year old William Konicek was approaching an airstrip in Cluitier at 10:57 am. Nov.28. Max Morrison, 64, of Traer was a passenger in Konicek's Taylorcraft BC12D light sport aircraft.

The article went on to say, The report states that the plane hit power lines during their landing. The lines which were transmitting 12,500 volts , had been buried underground and had not been marked with orange balls, authorities said. Several strands of the cables were found in the wreckage of Konicek's plane. Konicek died at the scene and the cause of his death was determined to be" thermal and blunt force injuries." Morrison died Jan.7 at the University of Iowa Hospital. The report stated Konicek had flown into that airstrip on previous occasions, but had not done so recently.
