  • Reklaw Texas Fly-In

The Fly-In at Reklaw, TX is on for Friday - Sunday Oct. 26-28, 2012. It is a grass roots flyin with as many as 600 aircraft attending. It is a private 4000ft. turf strip in East Texas, and there is a small registration fee for insurance purposes. The aircraft are everything from ultralights to Antonov An-2 (Thats a BIG taildragger!).

Link to Reklaw Fly-IN website for more details.

Last year the flyin was cancelled due to fire concerns due to the Texas drought. This is the 27th annual Reklaw Fly-In, so it is well planned. The fun part is bringing a folding chair and sitting on the side of the runway watching everyone land. If you have not been before, search for the You-Tube video and it will give you a taste of the action!

    Re: Reklaw Texas Fly-In

Did I ever tell y'all that I broke a pair of bungees while landing at Reklaw in 2008?
So there I was, surrounded by 400 airplanes, hundreds of knowlegeable mechanics and aviators, yet on a piece of ground in the middle of nowhere and no forseeable way to get replacement bungees.

So after consulting with as many smart guys as I could, and considering many options, I pulled the LG up with a ratchet-strap (see pic below), left my passenger and all of our camping equipment on the ground (to be as light as possible) and took off on the left wheel with 2 hours of fuel.

I landed on the left wheel in Pineville, LA to get fuel. Then flew home and landed on the left wheel again. It ended well. But I didn't tell too many people about it at the time, because I didn't want to appear to have been reckless.
