Several here have posted pictures and short blurbs about Bassett Hounds they have. Even though I am a devout dog person, I never understood the big deal about a dog that did little more than waddle around looking for someone to help him in and out of a car or a bed. Enter Sam. My wife dog sits for people who are out of town for awhile. We are currently keeping two dogs, one of which is a Bassett Hound name Sam. I admit, I was pretty ambivalent toward Sam when he first arrived. But after just a short time, I figured out there is something special about this dog. He is different. My two dogs bounce up and down when I say "outside", or "ball", or any of several other key words. Not Sam. He just slowly gets up and waddles along behind the rest of us. He couldn't play ball with the rest of the dogs. But he sure wanted to be close by. He is cute in his own unique way. And even though he doesn't bounce up and down, or get excited about anything, he definitely shows interest in his own laid back way. What a hoot! He has totally changed my attitude toward this breed. He is the total opposite of my Weimaraner, "Hannah". Here are a couple of pictures of Sam.

Re: Sam
Looks and sounds like my ex-wife to a t.Seriously though, very nice looking dog.I had a black lab that was 17 years old when he died, and was always with me where ever I went around the farm here.I miss the old boy.You will get alot of companionship out of your basset, and as they say, mans best freind.
