  • Central Texas Taylorcraft Fly-In - 2012

Hello all... Taking suggestions for a good date in the spring for a Taylorcraft gathering at Deer Pasture Airfield (69TE). Mark, Doc and the gang have been asking when shall we have a real Fly-in. So I guess it's time to get serious about it. I am thinking a Saturday in March or April 2012. Anybody have a suggestion for a hard date?

Great Idea! Texas Taylorcrafts! I'm in! mid to late March is better for me.

April is chock full of trade shows I will be attending, some of which start on Sundays, and will require travel on Sat.
After April 19th things get better, so April 21 and 28 are ok too.

    Looking forward to it!

Things are starting to materialize for the weekend of March 31, 2012... Also talking about a possible different Venue... Fort Parker Flying Field... has more overnight accommodations and food resources. Beautiful Airstrip near the historic Old Fort Parker, just north of Groesbeck TX. More to come.

Photos from this past weekend at "Christmas at the Fort".

I couldn't make the Ft. Parker fly-in last weekend. I had to take the carb off and have it cleaned. Now the A&P found that the rubber tip on the needle was worn out, so will replace it with an all-metal version. It should be in this week.

I would love to come to your fly-in, but it will have to be in an Aeronca! (I know, I know...)

I missed the Ft Parker fly-In Dec 10 to be in Houston for Sport Flyers Fabric class. I will do my best to make the March 31 fly-in.

Here are some more photos from last weekend at Fort Parker. These were taken by the airfield owner, Jed Keck. One of these, I played with the color and crop settings.

                Terry and Mike,
My last day at ST Aerospace is 23rd. I won't miss the job, but the other mechanics were great folks to work with.

Chuck... don't worry - got it covered! In Texas FOOD's a given.

The people at Old Fort Parker are also hosting an 1800's-style Cowboy Action Shooting Event for 4-days that weekend. They'll already be fixin for over a hundred folks. They're eager to fix for us too!! By the time you leave... you may be over-gross!!

And action shooting is very entertaining too! If there was something like that up here I would probably be a part of it. Looks like a great way to throw away a few hundred extra dollars. L

Only 32 DAYS until the Central Texas Taylorcraft Fly-in.

So far everything seems to be shaping up for a very nice group of Taylorcrafts plus some lesser admired airplanes who promise to park in the back. So if the weather turns out and the good Lord is willing, we should have a fine event to share.

Looking for Volunteers. This event is being organized for the benefit of Taylorcraft enthusiasts and there will be no registration fees. Airfield owner/host Jed Keck is not charging a dime. And he is providing a lot of the resources to make this Fly-in happen. Airfield Manager, Darius Farmer will be working overtime preparing, setting up, and cleaning up afterwards. He will be providing overall services to meet whatever needs we have. Also, my wife and kids are helping get ready and will be on hand to help in many ways. In addition, the gracious people at the Old Fort Parker, led by Sarah MacReynolds will be going out of their way to welcome our group and provide food, shower facilities, and much more. So I hope that all who attend will show appreciation to all of these folks. And even with all of this planning, there are numerous chores and tasks that we will need help with to keep the grounds clean and the flightline safe. Only a couple of folks have already offered to help. So we really will appreciate more helpers.

Please reply here or send me an email or private message if you would be willing to help. We are working on a master task list and need to fill spots. Some of the chores will be

                          Driver- making trips to town/hotels/errands
                          Flightline - Parking
                          Runway - Flaggers
                          Flightline - Tie-down deputy
                          Registration - attendants
                          Gate - Vehicle parking assistance
                          Grounds - garbage collection
                          Grounds - trash pickers
Runner - Liaison with Fort Parker food providers

The more help we get from our own people... the more likely it will be to have this happen as a regular event. Please consider volunteering. Thank you.

I ran into a couple of guys this weekend who were thinking of flying in with a group of planes. There was some concern that some of their planes would not be Taylorcraft and they weren't sure they would be welcome. I told them as far as I knew we were welcome, but of course would let you park all of the the T-Carts together so we didn't take anything away from your event. If I'm mistaken, please let me know. Most of us love old planes regardless of make or model and would love to participate, but also don't want to intrude.
