  • Potential fire hazard - pre-flight check

Yesterday...had a great, fun day of flying in the BC-65...logged 2.1 hours hopping around from airport to airport around the suburb perimeter of Waco TX.

However, this could have been a bad day. On pre-flight inspection, I noticed a twig sticking out of the LH eyebrow baffle. On further inspection, I noticed a bird's nest perched right between cylinders 2 and 4. Then looking further, I found the beginning stages of a nest on the other side between cylinders 1 and 3. This was a real hazard, because I also found that some of the straw and twigs had fallen down between the cylinders onto the exhaust.

We keep the airplane in an open T-hangar about 150 feet behind our house. It had only been a week since the last flight. So...to all....keep up with your pre-flight checks and be on the lookout for bird nests.
