  • Old Alaskan Pilot

Here is a link to an interesting story about Oren Hudson, a well-known and respected pilot here in Alaska. In his 90's, he still flies...a Grumman Widgeon, a Beech Bonanza and a Cessna 170. He started his flying career in a J2 Taylor Cub. Thought some of you might enjoy reading about his contribution to Alaska aviation. He bailed me out of a sticky situation once...Having turned back with the Taylorcraft, because of low ceilings and being faced with having to fly over 10 miles of open ocean( with my wife and one year old son)...then landing at a village where no gas was readily available...Mr. Hudson drained 10 gallons of gas out of his Bonanza...told me to dump it in my plane and then hauled my wife and baby back to Anchorage, while I picked my way through snow squalls to join back up with my family...then wouldn't take a dime for the flight or the fuel. Enough said. Oren Hudson, a real Alaskan! Dick
Oren B. Hudson came to Alaska in 1948, falling in love with the country, people and the flying, in that order.
