Absolutely beautiful photos, Jack, thanks for sharing. I recommend everyone look at all of the photos on the link Jack provided.

I have a question for anyone who has been to Blakesburg. I heard, (from just one individual), that the owner of the airport is a bit of a jack*ss and couldn't care less if anyone flies in, or not. Sounds a bit counterproductive but I know people that are like that.
          Cheers,
          Marty

I had heard this too, and saw a few examples of it, but... from what I saw they get ticked off if you don't follow the rules. Land if you have a green flag, don't if you have a red. When you land, get off the runway was quick as you can. Don't cross the red line they have painted on the ground. They had a plane lose control a few years ago and if not for a firetruck being in the way, it would have hit people. They try hard to keep it a safe event.

I did see their tempers flare, but it didn't bother me. They're good guys. One guy walked right across the red line and got chewed out. The other time was a group of 4 or 5 guys who decided to cross the runway and did it right in front of a landing Waco! I had a press pass and was allowed beyond the lines, which helped me get the shots I wanted.

This was my first time and I had a blast. Don't let the stories about Brent and Ben scare you off! Just read the rules online ahead of time and follow them.

              Good info, thanks Jack.

Again, beautiful photos, thanks for taking so many of them. The planes are gorgeous.

The Taylor Famliy from what I know are nice people. I have spoken with Robert Taylor he is a very approachable and friendly person over 90 years old and has devoted his life to aviation and creating a place for antique aircraft and the people who love them. Even Paul Poberesnzy was a friend of his, and he has done an excellent job of doing what he does, He has told me he is tired and would like to step back, His son is now running Antique Airfield, and from what I saw he just wants to keep it safe, and continue what his father started, He does not have his fathers sense of humor, but I do not hold that against him.

No, from what I can tell he is very serious about safety and adherence to procedures, and very busy running everything during the week, so he's maybe not real open to chit-chat with everyone all day long. Its got to be a huge commitment of time and energy to do this, so the idea that he couldn't care less if anyone flies in is pretty off base I think. This was my first year and will definitely be going again, beats Oshkosh hands down for me, no huge crowds, long lines, or a bunch of airplanes I'm not interested in looking at.

I believe they were talking about the older gentleman, (father?), not the son. Thanks.

                        Re: Blakesburg 2015 Photos

There may be some confusion when you say the father. I've heard nothing but kind words about Robert. He doesn't run the fly-in anymore. His son, Brent is the one who runs the event now and some complain he is gruff... and as I said, he can be, but in the name of safety. Brent's son Ben is also there helping to run things and can also be gruff... again, only when it was deserved.

Brent was busy running around keeping things going, so I only briefly got to meet him. I asked for a press pass and he asked a few questions and gave it to me. I promised to give him all of my photos and that made him happy.

I spent more time around Ben and got to know him a little better. I liked him, and like I said, don't cross the bright red line that has signs marking it and you're okay. I really liked meeting them and can't wait to return.

If any of you have ever been to Reklaw, you know what chaos can be. Just as you're about to land, someone walks across the runway in front of you. This happens over and over. I love Reklaw, but I land, tie the plane down, and don't fly again until I leave. They could use a few of the Blakesburg rules! Follow the rules and you'll have a great time.

Thanks, Jack, for the clarification. Must be the son they were speaking of.

If I do go, I will make sure to read the rules before going. As popular as this is I am sure it will only get worse with more and more people going. From your photos it is tempting to go next year.
                          Cheers,
