  • West Coast Taylorcraft Rendezvous

I want to invite all to the 26th Annual Taylorcraft Rendezvous at Columbia, CA over the Memorial weekend, May 22, 23 & 24th which is now only weeks away. So mark your calendar now, get the aircraft ready and plan to attend.... invite your friends as well.... all are welcome. Plan on coming on Friday May 22th and stay as long as you like. A Fly-in camp ground with hot showers are available, food is a short walk to a near by restaurant, which is a good place to eat. The fly-in has always been just a place for Taylorcraft pilots to get to "hangar fly". The town of Columbia is a State Park and just a short walk away and fun to see what it was like in the gold rush period. For people that want it, there are motels to stay in nearby and Ron Sawyer will help get you to and from. Activities are in the planning stage but a fly-out for Saturday lunch is being planned but mostly you'll have time to relax and renew old friendships.

If you have suggestions for activities please let Ron Sawyer or myself know.

Call Ron at 209-536-9415, or Jerry at 408-356-3407 if you have any questions. I hope to see you there.
    Happy landings
    Jerry Impellezzeri

If all goes well I plan on attending, had a great time last year even though my bird was not ready and I could not bring it. I have invited Bill Marble ( the friend who flew me down last year ) I am hoping he will accept and attend also.

Barring weather or mechanical issues I'll be there. Would not want to break a 25 year string.
      Cheers

Quick question to those planning on attending does anyone have a bungee tool they might be willing to bring to the event? I would like to photo graph and look at it as well as ask questions about its operation.

I have a bungee installation tool and I used it once to change a set of bungees. I'll try to remember to bring it.

I am sorry to report that I wont be able to attend this year. I really hate to miss it as it was to be my first year with my plane, and I had such a blast last year with you guys it was priceless. However we just got notification that our daughter got an appointment at UCFF for some testing and treatment, we have been on a list for this for over a year and a half. Hope to see photos and updates. Have FUN!

Here is a report and some photos from the fly-in. Since I only took a few photos I hope others will share their photos. Ken Andrews arrived Friday with his newly restored 1941 BC12-65. He has owned the aircraft since 1969 but it has not flown until last year for 30 years. He has a interesting story which includes a "spot landing" on the beach at Catalina Island. He said he plans to fly it to OSH this summer. Doc Meeker from Riverside because of solid overcast came up Saturday.... he found a hole and circled for a half hour to get to 7000 feet to fly on top and then 3 1/2 hours north to get to Columbia. Doc has not missed the fly-in in the last 25 years and he was not going to break his record now! We had five Taylorcraft attend with two more on the field that were briefly rolled out. Others came in other aircraft including 88 year old John Miles who flew his T-craft recently but was not able to bring it... out of annual. The high light of the event is dinner in Ron Sawyer's 1/2 acre Rose garden and the desert of strawberries and ice-cream! I believe everyone had a good time. It is always good to get together once a year... see you all next year. Jerry
