Is anyone heading to the Cactus Fly In at Casa Grande, AZ south of Phoenix March 6-7?

I haven't quite decided yet whether to take the Taylorcraft or the Comanche. The Taylorcraft is much more appropriate for this fly in but it always depends a bit on the weather and if anyone here needs a ride.

We usually have 4-5 planes come over from KLAM here in New Mexico and it's great to sit on the flight line watching all the neat planes come and go. We always figure that the trips to Casa Grande are the first sunburn of the year (Cactus fly in) and the last (EAA Copperstate fly in) but with the weather this year in New Mexico, we are already a bit tanned.

    Re: Cactus Fly In

The Cactus fly in was great this year! We took six aircraft from our area over in New Mexico. All my other EAA chapter mates took their fast planes rather than their slow planes, so I flew the Comanche rather than the Taylorcraft. I was not the only New Mexico Slacker. Gerry Donovan from Los Lunas south of Albuquerque took his mobile home and camped rather than fly his BC12-D. On the other hand he and Rose always hand out ice cream when you come to visit...

There were two local Taylorcrafts there. A green and white one from Tucson was new to me. I had a nice conversation with the owner. Very nice plane! The other, white with a blue stripe, has been there before from over Mericopa way. I only got a shot of his flying away Sunday. I always like to see the white one there because it is a near twin of mine. Other than his scalloped leading edge stripe and mine being straight.

Weather was great with temps in the 70s Friday and then low 80s Saturday although Friday had some fairly strong winds that kept attendance down. Saturday was beautiful with lots of planes and big crowds. Sunday was also fine for flying home.
