  • 25th Annual West Coast Taylorcraft Rendezvous

Hi All- I know it is early but Ron Sawyer wants the word to get out that the 25th Annual Taylorcraft Rendezvous will be at Columbia, CA in 2014 over the Memorial weekend, May 23, 24, & 25th. So mark your calendar now and plan to attend.... invite your friends as well.... all are welcome. This is the largest Taylorcraft event in the West so I know you'll want to attend.

Plan on coming on Friday May 23th and stay as long as you like. A Fly-in camp ground with hot showers are available, food is a short walk to a near by restaurant, which is a good place to eat. The fly-in has always been just a place for Taylorcraft pilots to get to "hangar fly". The town of Columbia is a State Park and just a short walk away and fun to see what it was like in the gold rush period. For people that want it, there are motels to stay at nearby and Ron will help get you to and from. Activities are in the planning stage but a fly-out for Saturday lunch is being planned but mostly you'll have time to relax and renew old friendships. Some of us are planning to fly-out to the Hollister Air Show like we did in 2013 on Sunday to see Dr. D fly his Taylorcraft act.

If you have suggestions for activities please let Ron or myself know.

Call Ron at 209-536-9415, or e-mail him ([email protected]) if you have any questions.
    Happy landings

    More on this event later.

Re: 25th Annual West Coast Taylorcraft Rendezvous

Hi All- Well it is less then 2 months to the best west coast Taylorcraft fly-in. Ron said that he wants the gang to come to his house for Saturday night dinner.... he lives on a rose farm so the sights and smells should be great! Of course the food and fellowship will be great also. So the question is who is coming?? It would help with planning to get a rough idea on the number coming. It is possible that this may be the last Taylorcraft fly-in hosted by Ron Sawyer at Columbia... he is no spring chicken... 81 this year... and he has been doing this for 25 years as well, so if you have been put off coming for what ever reason you may want to make this the year to come.

Another change of note is that the Hollister Air Show this year will not be on this week end so keep that in mind if you were planning on going to that.

So now is the time to get that annual done or change the oil or reschedule a activity or what ever so that there are no reasons for you not to attend.

Hope to see you there, but if you can let Ron or me know you are coming.
    Jerry

Re: 25th Annual West Coast Taylorcraft Rendezvous

Well the West Coast Taylorcraft Fly-in is only a week away. One of the attendees mentioned a while back that he is willing to give those interested a BFI in your Taylorcraft. Here is your chance to get that out of the way.

We want to round up all the shy Taylorcraft owners to come. Flyguy are you coming? I have not heard from you.... and you are so close being in Los Banos. Hope you can make it. Right now we have about 7 or 8 Taylorcraft expected but I know that there are many more within a hour or two flight who have not committed yet.

If you want to talk Taylorcraft and see what others are doing to improve their aircraft here is your chance. Hope to see you all next week!!

Re: 25th Annual West Coast Taylorcraft Rendezvous

Well it has been over a week since the Taylorcraft Rendezvous and I believe it was a successful event. We had five Taylorcrafts on the flight line and another two on the field in hangars for some reason and about 18 people along with other aircraft including Ted Miller's Stearman. For me a memorable part of the fly-in was Saturday night dinner at Ron Sawyer's place.... Ron & Rosemary have five acres of roses and other flowers in their back yard on a small hill with a Gazebo on top of the hill. The spaghetti feed (with wine of course) was served under a stately California oak with the branches coming down to the ground and the birds so loud that at first I thought Ron had speakers piping in the music.

The event was just a relaxing time with many interesting stories being told. Here are few photos... I hope others will add their photos as I only took a few myself. Ron is talking about doing it again next year. If you did not make it this time I hope you can next year.

Hey Jim Meeker...! Pretty airplane! My eyes zeroed right in on those chrome hub caps. Did you make them? Are they dome shaped. Chrome really stands out.

Here is a better picture of the hubcaps. They are dome shaped. I did not make them, got them from a guy in Florida but unfortunately I no longer have the contact info.

While driving to Riverside to take off I noticed a hole in the marine lawyer by Corona so headed west after take off and up through it. The next shot is of the San Grabriels headed for Cajon Pass. Some where under all those clouds is Cable airport with poor George Wacker stuck on the ground. Next are some shots of the planes that made it.

More pictures. Our trip flying under Fresno Class C looking at downtown. Our arrival, Tyler making it happen. The deer came to see what was happening. Youngest Taylorcraft Pilot at the Rendezvous grandson Tyler. This should be his 4th. Next year he won't need me. The last is looking down at our outdoor dining room. Jerry covered the meal but skipped the Fresh Strawberries and ice cream plus all the brownies one cared to indulge in.
