Hi - I can send you some flat pattern templates. Bear with me a couple of days. My hangar is submerged. Hope to be able to get to it tomorrow. It was still in 3 ft of water. Two ways to go on this. send me an e mail to [email protected], and I'll send you copies of firewall fwd. Remember the squares are one inch increment. measure the square divide by 1 and that's your enlargement rate. take it (dwg) to staples have them enlarge it to the result of your division that should be the full size. Measure the squares, if its 1 inch you did it. Aft baffle I can pattern for you. It's inside the hangar. a couple of other tribesmen are waiting also. If you need bend orientation, I can help. depends on model. L2 is different than BC12D. Cowling determines pattern og baffle. Hope I can help Happy Holidays - TonyL

If it's there, I'll send it. If these don't work out, I can always trace the patterns on my templates made from the 1946 BC12D TonyL

Happy Holidays from sunny South Africa, it was 27C here today thats 80.6F for you guys. If at all possible could you mail me a copy as well. I have two BC12-D restorations under way and no baffles found within the project boxes.

Tony - Thanks for the baffle templates. I made a pdf file which includes all the scans you sent me--with the exception of one that appeared to be a duplicate--and have attached. I have also attached the jpeg files you sent me in case there was something lost in the process of incorporating them into the pdf. You just never know with these digital processes.

Thanks Blake. Sorry Just got home. They look good. If you want, I can send the aft baffle dwg. alot bigger since, I made them into templates. also the flat patterns for the 2 fwd baffles that take ram air in. These I duplicated from trashy ones. I made a form block of plywood. micarta is the primary formblock tool. I'll try to show bends and orientation after the aft one. Be patient with me. Can't get to the hangar. It's still under 3ft of water. TonyL

About the baffling..An important baffle goes under the engine. It runs from the nose all the way to the accessory case and seals the air from bleeding out the sides of the engine up around the cylinders. The baffle is formed so that there is 3/8" to 1/2" clearance between the baffle and the bottom of the case. Unhappily, not all A65 cases are the same shape and size on the bottom of the case, so the baffles are not the same. I can post pics if necessary. Serial numbers might identify which cases have the highest standoffs. Someone here should be able to tell you.
Also, to be effective, the baffles should fit to about 1/8" of the fins. The fins are so fine and close together air would rather go out around them. The only things that makes the air squeeze through the fins are tight fitting baffles.

You're right Ron. I haven't taken mine out yet. have to remove the carb and induction system. It wraps around the front cowling. I have the A-65. I'll be making patterns for it and for my friends C-85. The L2M Cds have a set c/t prewar tcrafts and the A65. Forrest sells the cds forgot the price. By monday, I should have that pattern for the A65. The C85 needs the cyl. Can't layout without them. Please note the front baffles left and right attach to this one. I'll see if I can take an image with my camera this week end. I provided a start, need to get access to my hangar get the rest out. TonyL

I'm back on track. Had 4'ft of mud water in my hangar. Had to do damage control. Lucjy Rammon. The aft baffle dwg is a one piece gilberty. Need someone that can scan it. I can mail one copy to that tribe member. I did math correction to copy it, so it's full size. I glued it to alum sht as a flat pattern. Have to fit to cyl contour. Need to trace all other flat patterns from original baffles. left, right, front, rear, bottom, inter cyl. The first set provided were, like I said from (Firewall Forward ) book. Next is aft one piece baffle (Gilberti).I'll check to see the cost of scanning. If someone can scan, I'll send them the full size. please post. I'm disorganized so, if someone needs a specific pattern, please post and I'll facilitate in that sequence. Try to prevent any delays or hardship for them. TonyL

C.A.P. offers this complimentary scan of Gilberti Drawing G-118 Rev. A to assist here. However, you will see that this drawing does not define the baffle details. This drawing merely shows the felt seal installation and a modification of the EXISTING rear baffle with the 9.5 inch dimension across the mid-section for crankcase clearance.
