  • I am restoring a BC12-D converted to F19

    I am looking for:
    - a serviceable cowling
    - brakes
    - windshields
    - a nice instrument panel (I have the instruments)

Do you have any of them or do you know who can I call?

    Thank You

    Silvano,

Windscreen is available from Cee Bailey plastics and other manufacturers.

Brakes - Did your F-19 conversion include going to straight axles and Cleveland brakes or do you still have the taper axles and Shinn Firestone brakes. That will determine the answer to where to get brake parts.

Cowling - hmmm you will probably find one or two in the tribe that have a cowling, but most likely your can be repaired - if you have anything to start from that is.

Original instrument panels are scarce, but making a reasonable substitute is not difficult.
    Best Regards,
    Mark Julicher

          Silvano,
I see you are getting a lot of looks at your thread and cvavon has some brakes.
You can also get Shinn brake parts from Skybound Aviation in Georgia.

Please post pictures or send a link to your website if you have one. We all like to know where you are on your project and steal ideas when we see a good one

I was thinking somewhere in the $700.00 range as far as the panel $200.00 also have a fuel shut off valve for wing tanks its a koehler 26601 and has what lookes like a factory mounting bracket $125.00 Chuck

                Chuck,
It sounds like you have some good stuff at a fair price. I don't like to price other peoples stuff, but if I needed those items I would not consider your asking price to be out of line. Put it out as a Buy Sell thread and see what happens.

I bought my F-19 in San Jose - slowly restoring it with other work slowing me down.

If you need some inspiration there are several good restoration websites. I took mine down several years ago, but Rob Lees, for one, has a premier set of restoration photos and such.

You have a nice looking plane. Interesting that my family has land on Pine Mountain, California, but our Pine Mountain is in Humboldt County about 200 miles NE of you.

Rob hangs out here -- the "Ambassador of Taylorcraftness" but you can also see his handiwork here:

Tons of good restoration info. I must warn you though... this is a disease. I am on my fourth full up T-craft project and have done a handful of major repairs. THERE IS NO KNOWN CURE

The only thing I wouldn't do that you are, is powdercoating the airframe. It's a good way to get into trouble and not know it. Besides, you might better check with the local FSDO before you do that. I'd go with a good epoxy primer and polyurethane topcoat instead.... just my experience from the past.

x2 on the powdercoating. its strong enough to mask cracks.

Does not conform to Type Certificate. We just had to redo another fuselage frame
