  • Looking for:

currently have a sensenich 72ck40 wooden prop. It is lousy, bad climb plus wooden props just don't get it for me. Anyone have a METAL prop for a 65 hp? I would like a mccauley 72-45 maybe, or if someone can tell me the BEST climb prop, metal...repeat METAL prop for a BC12D 65hp, I'd sure appreciate it. On my other T -Craft was a 72-45 POLISHED old McCauley. It worked quite well compared to this dog I now have. Your suggestions will be appreciated as I am totally confused after conversing with Tiffin AND Sensich. JC P.S. I realize a polished prop is not legal but there seem to be ALOT of them flying and they are good looking! New prop is 3 grand! That is CRAZY!

      Re: Looking for:

I have a Mac 74x38 that works amazing. Flew in a friends recently (also with a 65hp) that had a 74X43. It preformed well enough, but it didn't seem to have the same "get up and go" that mine does. It could have been more than just the prop, I don't know for sure. It still had plenty of performance for going in an out of all the actual airstrips here. I imagine it would be just fine for your purposes. You can always flatten it out later.

              Re: Looking for:

I paid $500 for a 72CK40 a few years back. Not sure if that's a fair price or not, I see new ones go for $1300!

                Jim:
Just for reference: what cruise speed did you get with the 72CK40?

And, I'm thinking the rate of climb would be great with that prop...true?

                  Re: Looking for:

I sold a 72/44 prop at Osh. swap tent for $700 about 4 years ago.
It had less than 35Hrs on it.
Looked new. I took it in @ 9:30 am and went back at noon and it was gone.

                    Re: Looking for:

The climb on the 72ck 40 was not very good. It cruises at 90. As I said, the prop is in very good condition as the former owner took VERY good care of the airplane, ALWAYS in a hangar if not flown. Make an offer. (I have been told this wooden sensenich is good on a cub.) I'd like to get 600.00, you pay freight.

end of story: I finally wound up buying a NEW McCauley 74-43 rated as climb prop from East Coast propeller in Litiz , Penna. They gave me 600.00 for the Sensenich CK72-40 wooden prop, (good looking but lousy performance) plus a nice discount on the McCauley. Very nice to deal with and a very impressive repair shop. Their ad is in Trade a Plane. JC
