I have been looking for one also. Kinda hard to find. I need anything between 72-74" long and I don't care what pitch. I may just buy a new wood Sensenich if I can't find a decent used metal McCauley.

Most guys report better performance with a metal prop vs.' wood. Is there any data to back this up?

Not to offend anyone,but try pricing a new one.Plus,very few fixed pitch props that I have seen have thier own log book.If they have been rebuilt then they will sometimes have a yellow tag to stick in your aircraft/engine logs.
Also,in my opinion,$1200 is a little more than I would want to pay for a metal prop unless I really had to have one.It is not over priced but also not under priced either.If the prop is in good shape it is better than paying $2000-3000 for a new one.
Just remember,this is only my opinion.

Jason,you must have called Allen Smith.He is a nice guy and sometimes you can get a deal from him...sometimes.He is the type of person that thinks everything is worth twice it's value to the right dummy and that is what keeps driving the prices of our beloved birds and there parts through the roof.I'm not very fond of the way he does buisness but like I said before,sometimes you can get him to give ya a deal on certain parts.Here is an example of what I'm talking about,he has 2 t-craft projects with parts missing(mostly complete),they have no engines,props,or insturments (one of them might have a couple insturments....maybe)and he will not give an inch on the $7000 price tag...EACH!!!The pair of them might be worth that together.....might be.

I did talk with him and yes he is a nice enough guy. I would like to see if someone else is interested in purchasing a prop from him so we could get a deal on 2 props, more like $1000 each. It is really hard to find a good 74" prop. I have been looking for about a month now with no luck. I should be looking for a 72" because my plane has an A75 and I plan on installing a C85 or 0-200 down the road. I used to have a 72-40 wood and now I am borrowing a 70-42 metal. I can get about 2550 rpm with either prop. I am hoping a 74-40 will turn about the same rpm as the shorter wood prop so I can still get the good takeoff performance.

When you can buy an airworthy Taylorcraft for $12,500, $7,000 seems very overpriced for an incomplete project. It cost me a little over $12,000 in parts and materials in addition to the purchase price. I paid a little less than $5,000 for a complete and intact original including a 74/43 McCauley. This was all in 1994 so prices may have gone up somewhat, but not that high!

"Airworthy" is a rather loose term the under $14,000 Tcrafts that have come through here this year are really flying projects waiting to be rebuilt......... My metal props lately are $1200.00 and I guess the price is right, they are all gone. Maybe a 71-48 is still here ( 85 hp) .....

I have a 74 44 or 74 45, not sure witch one. No logs but a good prop. I had it on my old T-craft. I had loan it to a friend that used it for a couple of years. I am not sure what it is worth.

Still unable to locate a 74"-45* used Mac. Once again, if you should know of one please advise.

Jason, did the Duvall, flood waters get to the landing strip?

The farm strip was only 1/2 covered with flood water. I did move my plane to higher ground just to be safe.
