  • F-19 taylorcraft, edo 1400 floats parts

    Hello,
I bought an F19 with edo 1400 floats, wheels, and wood skis. I have since spent an additional $9000 and counting, on repairs. So I am wondering if any of you know where I can get some used, but still good parts. For the floats I need:

    EDO
    1 speader bar
    2 front bumpers

    For the F19:
    1 ventral tailfin
    1 F19 parts manual

I know where to get the bar, bumpers, and tailfin new and expensive, but I have no clue where to get the parts manual. Also I have heard that there is an stc for hydraulic brakes for the F19, but cant seem to find one. Any clues would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Nate 907-220-1920

    Re: possible leads...

Nate, This link should lead you to a supplier of an F-19 Parts list:

Essco Aircraft sells Aircraft Manuals and Pilot Supplies at wholesale prices. We specialize in hard to find Aircraft Manuals and Vintage Aviation Videos. Essco Aircraft stocks Pilot Operating Handbooks (POHs, Pilot Information Manuals (PIMs) Aircraft Owners and operators Manuals. We are the Aircraft Manual People.

Get ahold of Forrest on the Taylorcraft forum and ask him about the availability of a drawing for the floatplane ventral fin for a Taylorcraft ...have your mechanic make one or do it yourself under the mechanic's tutelage.

Get ahold of Eddie Peck over in Nova Scotia and inquire about a used spreader bar for some EDO 1400's. http://peckaero.com/

      Dick,
You info is very helpful! If you ever make it down to Ketchikan and want to see the Misty Fjords from an F19 give me a call.

      Thanks,

I was wondering why you are going with a ventral on your plane? Has it felt unstable to you in flight, or is it required with that float aircraft combo? Also by what means are you installing the floats on the F-19, by this I mean paperwork, field approval, STC or just because I said so. I know it's been done many many times but floats and float-plane data is not listed on the TCDS so you need some other type of approval, just curious.

I have a ventral fin that you could have if you buy the entire plane;} Actually ,I am thinking about selling to buy something bigger. Also, I thought the ventral fin
was only approved on the BC12D on 1320's with the A65 ?

Forest did have my ventral fin for a while to make a pattern.

Re: F-19 taylorcraft, edo 1400 floats parts

Trex - The F19 is very stable and flys great. The fin is for when I put the floats on it this spring. These particular floats were put on the plane when it was new. All the paperwork was done then. I have records of the field approval for edo 1400s. I bought the plane on wheels, but it came with edo 1400 floats, and Federal 1500 skis.

                Robert,
One of the best things about putting the floats on is I can get rid of the brakes. Ketchikan is in Alaska. The Alaska coastline is half of the coastline of the US. I don't know if thats bigger than Newfoundland's fjords, but I know it would take me a long time to see which is bigger in the Tcraft.

                Thanks,
                Nate

                  edo 1400
Alaska and Newfoundland have the same population, same kind of terrain, same climate and similar economies. Oil and natural gas are making their mark
in a big way, while fishing and forestry are a mainstay .

As for the Fjords, check out this link:

Oh, and B.T.W. , I am the hiker in these videos . I spent a full two days in Helicopter getting these shots. Quite a bit of fun actually.

                    Nate,
I guess what I was getting at is that a ventral fin may NOT be required for your installation. I have seen many a picture of F-19's on 1400's without a ventral installed. Ventral fins can sometimes be a pain around docks and when heeling up on shore. The T-Craft sits pretty tail low in the water as it is so that fin hanging down another foot won't help any. But if it is required by STC or field approved for your installation when it was certified then you've gotta have it. But unless the plane was squirley in flight when installed on floats I would skip it.

As far as I know only the BC12D with the A65 and 1320's required the Ventral
Fin but, I could be wrong. I'm not sure that I will even use mine it depends on which direction I take. I may try out the 1320's myself because the 1650
floats I am using are a tad big .

                        Thanks guys,
There is no fin mentioned on the 337 so it probably does not need it. Cool. Eddie Peck of Peck Aero is awesome. He is making me new spreader bars better and cheaper than the originals from edo. Tim at STLMetalarts makes nice aluminum bungee covers.

                        much respect,
