  • Beautiful 1946 Taylorcraft BC12D For sale

1650 Total Time,230 since major overhaul and restoration.Nice clean, strong running A-65. It is about as lock-stock as it gets, beautiful interior, custom made hat rack and baggage sling, wheel pants, very well insulated with an excellent heater, 24 gallons of gas. It is also the poster plane for the insurance company ad seen in almost every issue of EAA Sport Aviation. I just helped complete an annual inspection on this airplane and flew it about 3 hours. It runs great, flies great, and looks exceptional inside and out. I'll can get more info and pics upon request. The seller is asking aound $28,000 for it.

Also, this is my cousin Josh at the controls.....this little airplane finally turned him into a t-craft believer! You can tell by the smile.

What the ?!@# THATS MY (WELL WAS MY PLANE!!!) I flew it to sun n fun after restoration and it immediately caught the attention of the editor of Vintage aircraft. I flew it in formation with the EAA photoship where he/we snapped all the pictures. It was featured front page and a long article in EAA VINTAGE AIRCRAFT in MAY 2001 .My dad was in the passenger seat as he flew down with me..it was a tribute to him flying me to the 1970 OSHKOSH (first year) in his TAYLORCRAFT. Anyone wants the info on this aircraft feeel free to contact me 803-309-3130.

Kevin how did you end up advertising it ? What happened to CARL HOFFMAN ? I sold it to him and his grandson . CARL senior and I flew it form OWENS FIELD here in Columbia SC before he bought it . He remarked after we took off how he used to fly DC3's into the field for DELTA. His son was a DELTA Pilot and his grandson Carl jr was a COM AIR Pilot. Did Carl sr die and grandson want tos ell?

      Jim,
I've never really met the old guy that owns it but I know he just moved the airplane over to a private field in east Tn a few months back. The field is owned by one of my close friends. I picked it up about a month ago and brought it up here to do the annual on it,flew it around a little bit while it was here then took it back. Apperently the old guy who owns it is having some health problems and he can't get in and out of it without help and is not able to prop it himself either. All I know is they asked me if I would help them spread the word about it. It is a great little T-craft.....one of the nicest I've ever seen. It will make someone a very proud owner.

        Kevin,

Thank you for the explanation. Carl the old DC3 pilot is getting really old. I remember the third home he had in TENN That makes sence. When I sold it to him I believe I had around 170 hrs on it after the restoration. My guess is he enjoyed being around it in the hanger but only flew it around 60 hrs over 7 years. That plane was done over with almost ALL NOS Taylorcraft parts. (Long Story) on how that came about. Hope some one here on the site that will care for it picks it up. It needs to be flown and shown. Incidently the color on that is what was used on the Cessna Airmasters back in the 30s.

        Best Regards

        Jim

Well, Carl SR called me last week or so.Was good to hear from him. Sounds like he is as sharp as ever. Typical Airline pilot as he is fussy about what he flys. This plane is as good or better than when I had it I believe. Anyone wants to get all the dope on it(figuratively speaking of course) please feel free to call me at 803-309-3130.

Kevin is helping to sell her from this site. It would be nice to see a foundation member get her. Whoever does I really hope its someone that takes care of it. Its is truly one of the finest in the country.

            Jim,
Carl is a really interesting cat....I was told by a mutual friend that he has around 10,000 hours in DC-2's and DC-3's. He retired from the airlines in the mid 1970's as a Boing 747 capt. That has to be one hell of a career when you can start flying for the airlines when the top airplane choice was the DC-2 and DC-3 then retire as captain of one of the biggest super jets still today. I have yet to meet Carl in person but I have had a couple of very wonderful phone conversations with him. He is a super nice guy. This taylorcraft will make someone very proud.
