    Re: Props for Sale

    Mark

I am interested in the 72-46 for a C-85 Taylorcraft.

I have a 71-44 on it now and I need more pitch.

Do you have any experience using this size? I was thinking of using a 71-45 or 71-46.

    thanks,
    David

      Re: Props for Sale

      David,
Here is how I would approach the issue:

First, be sure the Sensenich is acceptable in accordance with the Type Certificate Data Sheet. This prop is NOT OK for an A-65 for example.

Second, you could fly up here and hang the prop on your bird and see how it does on a static runup. If you can make the static runup RPM OK then buy the prop. (I would not fly these props until they have been overhauled, but a runup would be OK) If you can't make static runup numbers, then re-pitch the prop to 45.

Third, have the prop overhauled to look as good as new. You could do the static RPM check BEFORE I have the prop refurbished and then if it needs to be re-pitched it can be done at the same time for little or no extra cost.
I had these props checked at San Antonio Prop yesterday and they are all in limits and can be refurbished.

I am an A&P IA so I can rehang your prop for you after the test run.

        Re: Props for Sale

        Mark,

Thanks for the reply. I will do some research to see if the prop is legal for my installation.

I was thinking of purchasing a new 71-46 McCauly but a used prop would save me some money. Your original post says the asking price will be shown including overhaul. Is $900 correct?

I have a perfect 74-45 for a 65 installation that I could have clipped but I really hate to clip it because you can never add material again.

        I think the 85 will static ok with a 71 or 72 -46. It statics 2300 with the 71-44.

        thanks,
        David

          Re: Props for Sale

          David,
Yes, $900 is correct. San Antonio Propeller looked at the prop and said it was in limits to be reconditioned, and they charge $450 to do the work. So yes, the prop is a real deal, but it is helping a widow get rid of a huge collection of stuff.

          Hmmm.
I have a 72-45 McCauley in nearly perfect condition on my A-65 and I would really rather have a 74. If you can't use the Sensenich, maybe we can do a trade. I can re-pitch the 74-45 to work better on my 65 and you would probably have exactly what you want too.
My prop was overhauled in 2000 with the McCauley Black Max speed mod. You have to smile putting a speed mod on a 65, but there it is.

            Re: Props for Sale

            Mark,
I would like to buy either of the sensenich props. Preferably the 72-46. If that one is spoken for I would be interested in the 74-50 and would have that overhauled and re worked. Please let me know. The model number is M74CK-2-46.
            Brad.

The model numbers on these Sensenich props is M76 - M2
              Not
              M74

I'm thinking they are not OK for Taylorcraft.

                  I have no idea.
I never tried to mount one of these props on anything. I suppose I could go find that information someplace.

                    Re: Props for Sale

                    Mark,

I checked the type certificates and could not find a listing for the Sens. M76 so I guess that option is out.

Let me think a little about a trade. I do have still have the A-65 that the 74 inch prop went to. So I may hang on to it. The 74/45 A-65 combination works very well on the Taylorcraft.

My BC12D was originally converted to a BC12D-85 in 1948 but when the 85 was worn out a 65 was put on it. I am in the process of going back to the 85.

                    thanks,
                    David
