I know it's not a taylorcraft but it will still make someone a pretty good old 4 place airplane CHEAP! I should have never boguht this airplane but I thought I was getting a steal of a deal, hense the old saying,if something appears to be "too good to be true", it usually is. I thought after a 2 hour ferry fligh I could just do a little cleanning, install some new interior, slap it with an annual and turn a few good dollars on it but the seller turned out to be a bigger lier then Harry.
I have spent the past few weeks disassembling, inspecting, cleaning, fussing, cussing, and basically trying to figure out how I could be so stupid(caused me to smoke 3 cigs, drink 2 cases of beer, and a fifth of Jim Beam....not all in the same night). Anyway, after reassembling with all new AN hardware, rebuilding both brake master cylinders, new brake linings, replacing one flap cable, lubing and unsticking every single pulley(replaced 2),new rubber pitot, static, and fuel lines, all new scat tubing, replacing the tailwheel with a new Maule tundra(heavy duty),repairing one door latch, replacing both mags(with good used servicable),and then finding crap in the oil leading to an engine swap because the camshaft was pitted pretty bad I finally got it all back together and I think it is going to do pretty good. I have only flown it once since it was all reassembled but it seemed to run great. Anyway after all this here is what I have:
1946 Stinson 108-1,150 Franklin with 1200smoh+/-,200stoh(done in 1998,I think),good compressions,no oil leaks after 2 hours run time,All metalized and it looks like it was done in a factory(very nice job),cleveland w&b,Maule tundra tw with 6" tire, engine logs go back to new,NO airframe log at this time but I was promissed I would get them(I don't expect I will ever see them), very intensive inspection with all new AN hardware,NO radio's, and need interior. I have all new side panels from Airtex ready to install, the front seats are in good shape, the back seat need a sling and cushins(it is removed),I have no carpet or headliner so it will need a good interior makeover or simply fly as it. I still have a few little things left to do such as hook up the wiring for the fuel gauge, nav lights, and landing lights, and I'm still waiting on my O'rings for the brake masters(they work fine but both leak around the top cap). I will have all the mechaincal things fixed before it leaves my place but I've already put waaayy toooo much into it and I don't have the time or the heart to start on the interior so here it is offered to you guys for the BEST REASONABLE OFFER ! I will never get my money back on this one so it will become a right off. She flies great and runs great also. It does have some light corrosion dust in a couple of places but is nothing bad and nothing out of the ordinary(mostly in the elevators and few small spots of surface dust where the paint has falked a little, wet your finger and wipe it off). It does have a nice set if wheel pants and all mounting hardware that will be installed after the brake masters have been rebuilt and the brakes bled out. I also still have to put the strut fairings on it but they are all here...I think. She will make someone a really nice flyer and not a bad looker with a little more elbow grease so if your interested please let me know. I do have a bottom price in mind but I am open to any and all reasonable offers. I have too much in it and I will never see near that much back for it so you can own it for the same or less price of a dirt cheap flyable t-craft. I will post some more pic in a little while. Also, everything on the panel works but could use some cosmetic help.
    Thanks, Kevin

Here's some more pics of the Stinson taken today. I flew it about 2 hours today and she's running great and flies great. It is still having a little trouble with the carb going from idle up to about 1200rpms(accelerator pump or low speed jet...maybe both). Anyway,I adjusted on the carb and helped it but did not cure it. Sooo,I have ordered parts to overhaul the carb and should have that done by the weekend. I plan on flying her a little more thins week just to get more comfortable with the new engine and all the work that has been done. So far I have put 3 hours on it and the oil level hasn't moved and she just keep running better.

Someone stuck this sign in the window one day while it was apart.Today I took my uncle for a right and he handed my a quarter when we landed...I though it was funny. I have also added a picture of the new Maule Tundra tailwheel that I put one it...one of many, many new parts.

How about my basket case BC12D; zeroed A-65, and some cash? You need another project right?

That thing got any roaches in it?

Re: 4 place Stinson 108-1 For Sale

LMAO.....I think I got all the roaches out of it, might still be a few bugs here and there.I can't stand the thought of another project right now. That's the main reason I'm leaving the interior and panel clean up for the new owner....I just want to get my Starduster finished before warm weather sets in and get back to Crispy again. This would make someone a nice old airplane if ya don't mind doing a little TLC work while ya fly it.....well,might be better if ya do the TLC work between flights.
I did get the carb parts today and got it rebuilt(overnight delivery has really gotten expensive).....that fixed the low speed idle problem. Just make me a reasonable offer and come get it.....please,no more trades or projects. I have way too many right now and until my Starduster and Crispy are flying again there will be NO MORE PROJECTS(unless they are really, really cheap and I can part them out for a small fortune).
This really ain't a bad old Stinson. I made it out to be pretty bad on the first post . It was somewhat of a mess when I bought it and the seller lied to me about a lot of things on this airplane. I have fixed everything mechanical and treated all the corrosion which was very light and minor to start with and pretty much isolated to the elevators and a little in the horizonal......NO RUSTED TUBING ANYWHERE. I will be losing money on it but someone will get a real good deal on it simply because I want to recover as much of my money as possible and move on simply because I don't have time to do the interior. When I bought it I thought the interior and a little minor TLC was all it was going to need. I hadn't planned on a wings and tail off, engine swapping, accessory & carb rebuilding annual. So, I just wanted to give the t-crafters and Stinson owners club first crack at it. I will probably list it on Barnstormers tonight or tomorrow.

            Hello Y'all,
Just wanted to put in my 2 cents worth on this Stinson. It is a diamond in the rough. Stopped by on the way north to Alaska last week and if I had room for another plane this would be with me now. The metal covering was a professional job although dusty at the time and the paint just needed a little tlc/cosmetic touches. I know Kevin does not have enough time to go around and this project has taken too much of it already. The new owner will be smiling for years!!!! Buzz N96175

              Kevin;
I see by your ad that the Stinson comes with "no rusted tubing anywhere' Incase you need some extra rusted tubing I have plenty... but then you knew that. All the best to you and your family.
              With regards; ED OBRIEN

                Buzz,
Thanks for the compliments and thanks for sending the other wheel half back. I really didn't need it but I might someday....or maybe someone else will.

Thanks for the offer Ed but I have plenty of rusty tubing laying around. I'm glad I didn't sell those gear legs to anyone,I got to poking around on them and I found 3 places(1 place on the right and two on the left)where the pick done it's job.

Kevin, I have to ask. How the stinson compare to a tcraft? I have always admired them but never had a chance to fly one. They remind me of an old packard car! Built very sturdy. I know there is a big difference between the -1 and the -3. Do they fly well with the 150 Franklin? Thanks Carlton

Re: 4 place Stinson 108-1 For Sale

The fly excellent. They are a very under estimated airplane that gets very little credit where credit is due. As for how it compares to a t-craft......it really doesn't. It flies great with the 150 frank but I would not want to load the back seat, the fuel tanks and try to go out of a short strip. Cruise is about 110-120mph,fuel burn is 8-9gph,very smooth running engine, climb performance is almost exactly the same as an older model Cessna 170/172. There is one big difference between the Stinson and C-170/172.....there is quite a bit more leg and shoulder room. The door is a bit smaller(not as bad getting through as a t-craft) but once inside you do have more room. As for how it handles in the air, well, it really likes to roll. The ailerons are fast, smooth, and quick to respond. The elevators are very affective,a little heavy doing steep turns but very comfortable on landing,go arounds, and general slow flight. The rudder is quite a bit heavier then anything else, very responsive, very easy to control and keep straight down centerline but still a little heavy on the peddles(that's probably when it handles so smooth on the ground). They are a very nice airplane to fly, very cheap to own(until something major breaks inside that Franklin engine because parts are a little high). The engine has no listed TBO,and very, very few AD's on the engine or airframe.
As for the difference in the -1 and the -3.....the -3 has more hp,more gas,a prop full of AD's, and you must pray before each and every crosswind landing in the -3,lol. The -3 is also a very nice flyer,I just prefer the lighter, small tail Stinson.

Thanks for the reply Kevin. We have one on the field and I,ll have to try and get a chance to fly it. I have had a 170 so that analogy gives me a good idea of the stinson performance. Thanks again. Carlton

I learned to fly in a 1948 Raggwing 170 which we are restoring,I also own half of a 1955 170B.
