  • O-145 Lyc to A-65/75 parts f/sale & wanted

Well, I'm taking the cure. Gonna convert old 20442 over to a Continental 65/75? So I'm looking for a good low to mid time engine w/ no issues. A prop. Also need the eng. mount. Going to keep it open cowling, so looking for an "airworthy" set, or even one piece, and the cooling eyebrows. Think I've got a copy of a 337 for the switch. What am I missing so far?

I'll be removing the O-145 B-2 w/ mags and carb.
At annual last week cold compression: 74, 73, 72, 60, (sounds like an exhaust valve). ~ 268 smoh (in 1977) I've put about 70 hrs on it since 2003. And probably twice that working on it..... It starts 1st swing 95% of the time. I've got a supposedly new camshaft to go with it.
    The mount will go too.
Propeller: Metal Sensenich M74CK-2-36 Reconditioned and repitched to 36" in 1992.
Lycoming open cowlings both "airworthy" but semi-motley, got an extra top cowl that needs a little work. I'll figure a price on this stuff in a day or so. Make me an offer if you can't wait to put these little gems into your collection Howard

Forgot to give you the area code. It's 830.You can also reach him at 830-652-8119. He is located at the New Braunfels Tx. Airport-apx 35 north of San Antonio Tx. He rebuilds engines and does great work.

Finally had time to sit down and look at catalog prices.
Would like to see $1,500 for the metal prop it is in good condition and equivalent new ones, if you can find them are pushing $2500. For the engine I'm looking for $1500, a real bargin when you consider what you would have to pay for the individual parts. The last cylinder head I bought was $750. Have several extra cylinder heads in various condition. The carb and mags are good and attached to the engine. Started first swing the other day when I flew it over to disassemble the plane. If I were going to keep this engine I would check the valves on the low cylinder, fix 'em and keep flying. Also have new extra camshaft! Think the price on one of those was hovering around $800 several years ago. The open cowling which is ugly but 'airworthy' how about $200. PM me here. Howard

! Might have to backtrack on offering the prop for sale. In reading some old posts, it looks as if I can use this prop on a small Continental. If I'm wrong let me know. Howard

It will bolt up but the pitch will be wrong(I think)...what is your pitch?

Yup, I think you may be right Kevin. The prop is a 74 x 36". It looks like the they're calling for a 72 x 46" for the continental ( have to double check). My prop has been repitched once. Don't think they can get a 10" bite twisted into it. Have to read up on the limits for # of times you can repitch and how much. Will probably put it back for sale. Thanks for the heads up. Howard

                  36 pitch???

Was that necessary to turn they Lycoming up enough for takeoff???

No wonder your airplane is slow!!!

You put that A65 with a 7442 on and you'll think you have a rocket! Add a little pitch and you'll have a speed machine.

Probably so. Not an exciting climber. Got about 2210 rpm static, and in level flight she'd turn over redline. Sounded happiest around 2300.

No wonder your airplane is slow!!! Yup. sigh.....All the better to watch what's happening on the ground.

I've got my fingers crossed......I know when I flew Mike H's Beast I had to hold on for dear life, had to actually plan ahead!!

I've got a J3L Cub with the O-145 and it has a 69/44 and it red lines the engine at a 40mph climb....either not enough pitch or not enough length.

                        Maybe we're just underpropped.
