  • F-19 Restoration

Well my F-19 floatplane is no longer for sale. I ought to have my head examined, but I have decided to restore it. Now I truly know what Taylorcraft illness is all about. Thanks to Jason for showing me his plane and to Kevin for some time on the phone.

I still may sell my Aqua 1500's if anyone is interested. I would like $10K.

Turns out the ship isn't it too bad a shape. I'm in the market for the following:

    Prop (Cruise preferred, 74-43 McCauley?)
Strut (thick one) for the right front wing.
    0-200 Crankshaft
    intake manifold
    oil pan

Thanks is advance for the help.

    Re: F-19 Restoration

    Steve,
Good luck with your project....you can expect a lot of help here. I'm rebuilding an F-19 conversion myself, and several others have variations on that going in their shops as well.

One word of advice; join the Foundation. Many here won't even talk to you unless your member. It's a deal at only $15 a year. Join the Taylorcraft Club too, if you're not already a member. They have a great newsletter that will answer some of your questions before you can ask them.

The McCauley 74-43 would be a climb prop.

I sold a perfect set of Aqua's with Taylorcraft rigging not too long ago for $10,000, so you're in the ballpark if they're very nice.

Goood luck on the strut....I have a bent, but probably repairable spare one here. It wouldn't be economical to ship it that far though.

Manifold, crank and oil pan are just parts and widely available.

    Have Fun!

      Re: F-19 Restoration

Thanks Vincent. Forrest helped me in speaking with Univair about the strut. When I first spoke with them they said the strut they sold was approved only up through the BC12D. I think I'm all set now and will order it tomorrow.

I am a Foundation Member (#780), and will be joining the TOC also.

So we are fixing some bent tubes, rebuilding the engine and hope to start covering in late April. With any luck I'll be flying by the 4th of July.

      Take care.

        Re: F-19 Restoration

That is one of things I have been on the phone about to Wag-Aero, Univair and others concerning the "applicability" of these PMA'd parts. I think we have a handle on it......
USE the reprinted Parts List for the F-19 or F-21, they are here at Barber Aircraft for $10.00 plus S&H $4.50 ... firewall aft they are the same as BC12D or Model l9 . read the new newsletter the "Taylorcrafter" under the Foundation stuff.
here it is attached...... hold the fort! More tomorrow.
