I'm not sure what to call these, other than "leggings". They were on my plane when I bought her, but they're being replaced with the original fabric during my restoration.
Perhaps they were intended to stiffen the gear for operation on skis, or someone got tired of tall corn stubble poking holes in the fabric during cornfield landings? It's a mystery, but they did make changing the brake cables easy.
These slide on from the top. They hook over the cross-bar at the top of the landing gear vees, just below the door sill, then fasten with screws up the inside. Well made, easy to install and remove, quite sturdy. The four pieces of aluminum and all the screws weigh about five pounds total.
FREE to anyone who wants them -- you just reimburse me for UPS shipping. You'll need to buy new clipnuts and sheet metal screws. PM me if you want them -- my wife says to get them out of the basement.
