Tribe- I am getting ready to put 8.00 X 6 tires on my plane and want to also change my Maule solid rubber tailwheel to the pneumatic 8 inch version. Does anyone have one to trade. I have 2 solid rubber maule tailwheels I'd trade for one really nice pneumatic 8" Maule.

Re: Maule Tailwheel trade?
Jason- Yes- It is for here at home and some other places I have been going. My Mom is a hospice nurse and a patient told her of several abandoned strips he used to use in the 40's while flying for the CAP. I have found a few and landed on one- it is now a cow pasture and has a fence across the middle- Anyway- it is plenty long (700ft or so) but it is rough as a cob- I am wanting to do more of this type of flying and do not want to shake my fillings loose.
I thought it would be a good addition to the 8.00X6's I will be installing at annual. How much heavier is the Maule Tundra? I want to keep it as light as possible- I am 825 or so now with the C-85-8 and seaplane prop.Eric Minnis

Re: Maule Tailwheel trade?
I think the Tundra is in the 5-1/2lb range, still lighter than the scott 3200. Have you considered 8.50's? Much better than the 8.00's but you already know that. The minor weight increase is more than offset by the extra safety margin gained from larger tires and stronger tailwheel. The increased AOA also helps with the short field performance.Jason

Re: Maule Tailwheel trade?
I actually was able to get the 8.50x6's field approved but did not like the weight penalty- I wish I could find them in a 4 ply version. . . .Eric Minnis

Re: Maule Tailwheel trade?
Eric: I have a pneumatic Maule tailwheel on my plane. I'm under the impression that its actually a bit too large. I'd be up for a trade if its what you are looking for. I'm not sure of the model number or size but I'll check when I get to the airport (by next weekend) and let you know. Thanks!Tom Gilbertson

Re: Maule Tailwheel trade?
Tom- That sounds great- the part number I need is SFS-P8A and goes on a 1 1/2 inch spring. I have the SFSA solid rubber one and I'll include an extra one for parts for helping me out. Just give me a call to make sure it is the right p/n.Last edited by Acroeric; 12-18-2006, 12:58.Eric Minnis
