  • Need BRAKES

    Hi,

Looking for a couple sets of backing plate assbys for the Cleveland 2000's that I believe were used on Tri-Pacers. I am building a couple more sets of Pietenpol wheels. Pic shows brake needed. Thanx.

    Hey Mike.
Sorry I have no brake parts for you. Just admiring your wheels. I've seen you on the Piet forum too. Whats the diameter and tire size? Those are a great looking set of wheels. They look stout... have you tested or analyzed these? I have a set of Bendix 30X5 parts that I'm saving for my dads Robin may need them someday. We currently have 28X4 from Fischer... one is repaired, hoping they will last. For my Piet in progress, I have straight axles and cub 800X4 wheels and brakes. But those wheels loof perfect for a Piet. Are you selling any wheel sets? How much$$?

      Terry,

I have since sold both Piet projects. My Sky Scout is in Brodhead and was finished up by Dennis Hall. It is a beauty and Dennis deserves the praise it gets. I had the Scout thru cover and pretty much ready for final assby. I have made (3) sets of the Piet wheels to date. I get $1800/set...wheel skins included(making a good solid $7/hr!). I can't even begin to verbalize the aura they bring to an Air Camper. Upon mounting, they morph the ship 70 years back in time. Tire size is 21" x 3 which correlates to the required 27" called for in the original plans. As far as testing....Denny Trones antique OX-5 BIRD is running on 21"x36spoke cycle rims! I also rec'd some excellent test feedback in the form of witnessing a crash 5 years ago at Blakesburg. Earlier that morning, I had mounted a set on Les DeLines old Air Camper. It was flown all morning and all who witnessed the transformation of 600-6's to my wheels were awed! Later in the afternoon a pilot stalled it on takeoff at 75-100'. Right wing went down and the ship impacted RH wheel first, engine next. Ripped the engine right off the ship. The RH wheel took the brunt of the impact. The rim and skins were damaged beyond repair but my hub did not even flake a paint chip after a dozen 9ga. spokes failed in shear at the hub. I designed the hubs to be used with Cleveland 2000 hydraulic brakes off a Tri-Pacer. Having a heck of a time finding a couple sets now. Keep your eyes open. Here is a pic of my old Sky Scout.
