  • Wing Struts wanted for Crispy Critter

Does anyone have or know of a nice, complete match set of unspliced post war wing struts are located at an affordable price? Crispy is almost ready for her wings to spread but Univair and ACS tell me it will take 3-6 months to get a complete set and by the time I pay freight and handling charges it will cost me almost $3000 BUCKS!!!!
    Thanks

Kevin- Let me know what you find- I need some old ones for the clipwing. I bet I can find some damaged and cut them down. If you get in a REAL BAD PINCH I can loan my rear struts to you to get you in the air. I do not have any front ones yet- sorry.

Flying is easy- to go up you pull back, to go down you pull back a little farther.

Kevin, don't mean to sidetrack your thread too far, but I have just spoke to Univair also about struts, and they told me that their struts are mild steel and .035 thickness. I'm not sure where I got this but I thought the originals were 4130 and .049? Anyone know for sure?

        Eric,
Thanks for the offer but I hate to put you out like that. I might consider a trade one the ones I have it your interested. I have a few that are servicable but all of them have poor quality splices in them and I think all of them are spliced at one end or the other so the splices can probably be cut out for the Clipped wings. I would consider trading all 6 or 8 that I have for your 2 good rear ones.

Greg, I too thought they were 4130 but I might be wrong. I called them and gave them a part number for T-craft struts and they told be the price and wait time.
Also,as for the issue you emailed me about ,I thought I had done that a long time ago but I will check my wallet to be sure.

The original tubing was .049 1018 mild steel.Dorothy had to change to the larger tubing when the original was no longer available. BTW I have several ten foot lenghts of the original tubing. Dick

There are three approved strut sizes the last was 1010 and looked like a small wing........ sorry for the distraction those sizes are in the FAQ section somewhere.
