  • 1940 Taylorcraft BC12-D For Sale

It was a difficult decision, but I have decided to sell my airplane. I am now looking for a four-seat tailwheel airplane; my wife would like to join my son and I on our flights.

1940 Taylorcraft BC12-D. Photos seen at www.websmart.org/taylorcraft. 4995 TTAF; 575 SMOH; Cont A-75 engine (one-time STC on engine and propeller); new Slick magnetos and shock cords in 2004; compression at last annual (Feb, 05) #1 80/79, #2 80/79, #3 80/78, #4 80/78; All ADs and paperwork are in order, logbooks back to 1942; Airplane flies well. The airplane is hangered at KLS (Kelso-Longview airport, Kelso, WA). Yes, it will qualify as a sport pilot airplane.

The next annual is due in February; however, I am having an annual done again the week before Christmas to make sure everything is all checked out before a sale. Asking $16,500.

I can be reached at home: 360-557-0198 or cell: 503-957-8273. Please call if you have any questions.

    Thanks,

    Allen Harstine

Allen, looks very nice. The price seems fair also. I am to far away to be a good prospect; however, I am certain someone here that is closer to you will scoop it up.

You might want to make a spec sheet with all the info and add it to your lisiting.

    Good Luck

Hey Allen, I spoke with a forum member recently from Eastern Oregon that is looking for a plane like yours. I hope he sees this post.

Kevin Mays (crispy critter) has a C170b for sale. Karl and I are sure having a great time with his. Or I can hook you up with a guy selling a low time M4-210 Maule for about $35K He just don't fly that much anymore. I also have a friend selling his M5-210 recent rebuild for about $60K. I have flown this one and it looks/flys great.

Nice plane. Do you have wing tanks?

Thanks everyone for the replies. I will answer your questions and add more information:

          * 24 gal total fuel; two six-gal wing tanks and a 12 gal main tank. Burns about 4 gal/hr.
          * Internal fuel gauge (not rod and cork) as part of previous 85HP conversion. Properly logged. Gauge is VERY accurate.
          * Auto gas STC. Only mix auto gas and 100LL during summer months.
          * Replaced original compass with vertical card compass at original attach point next to window. Replacement is properly logged.
          * Shielded plug wires and plug covers. Plug covers seem to be orignial.
          * Cessna 140 dual exhaust. Cessna 140 trim wheel on floor. Properly logged.
          * External antenna for hand-held radio, logged.
          * Wings and horiz stabilizer covered with Ceconite in 1994. Fuselage covered in 1964?? Looks much newer than this - will have fabric tested again at annual inspection.
          * Actual airspeed (GPS checked in no-wind conditions) 89 mph at 2400 rpm. Prop has 40" pitch. Indicated airspeed at stall ~ 40 mph, indicated airspeed at 2400 rpm ~ 95 mph. Seems to indicate about 6 mph fast at cruise speed.

Plane appears to have post-war elevator and trim tab, but pre-war doors and perhaps the rest of the plane is pre-war. I know a guy in Virginia who'd likely be interested if it was a couple of thousand miles closer...

The annual inspection starts tomorrow morning (Tuesday) at 6:00am. They start early at that shop! It should probably be done by Wednesday evening.

                      Mike,
I can ferry it for ya. As you know I've made a lot of trips across the Rockies in little 2 place birds.

There you have it Mike! An experienced T-craft owner willing to bring it. Take the far south route to stay out of the ice and snow. Many T-craft owners down thru AZ and TX to offer support if needed. Tailwinds usually going W to E.

Kevin, you got big brass ones if you want to fly it across the Rockies in winter, and it just ain't necessary at all. Go down Interstate 5 to the Mojave Desert, then Interstate 10 thru El Paso. I'm here in Los Angeles, close to the desert to come get you if necessary. BobDog's near Buckeye AZ. Sabrina's there at West Texas. Several other forum members along the way. You would add a few hundred miles to the trip, but it would be a much better and safer trip.

Like someone on the forum said, buying long-distance is a logistics nightmare.
There is/was also one near Memphis, but I feel as if I need to see it and do my own pre-pre-purchase. Hope I'm not seriously missing out by being too conservative, but there's got to be what I'm looking for within a day's drive of DC - Mike
