  • Prop Wanted.

    Hello,
I need a prop for a BC12D with an A65 cont.I would prefer a cruise or standard prop.Metal or wood, looks and condition are not too important as long as it is sound, safe, and airworthy.I have a wood prop(sensenich 72/44)that I can trade and it is flying right now,but it was redone sometime ago by a no-name source and the quality is rather poor on the metal leading edges and the rivits that hold them in place. The wood and finish are still excellent however I don't fell real comfortable flying it much unless it is rebuilt and I really don't have the time to wait for that to be done.
Let me know what ya got.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

    Re: Prop Wanted.

Kevin, PLEASE for gods sake do not fly with a prop you are not comfortable with. I had a prop on my BC12D work it self loose and and came close to shearing all the bolts that held it on. I was lucky. We just about two months ago lost a 22 year old outstanding pilot here in SC. The NTSB is reconstructing everything and it looks like (hear say ... unconfirmed)they think been the prop on the T6 he was flying ,broke... on takeoff.... . I know of a Chief that went down in a swamp due to the wood prop breaking up. Killed the pilot. You have a bunch of experience with planes based on what I remember hearing from your posts...... You know and are doing the right thing by insisting it be rebuilt. Jim

      Re: Prop Wanted.

      Jim,
I'm flying it on a borrowed prop at the moment. The wood prop I have is in good shape but the rivits that hold the metal to the leading edges are not of a prop shop quality.I called sensenich and they said they could rebuild it for $400-600 dollars but they were so far behind at the moment that it would take at least 4-6 months.I plan to sell this t-craft as soon as I can get a prop that is not borrowed. If someone has an extra prop that is in good shape and I can use now,I would send this one to be rebuilt with a return shipping addressed to that someone.I just don't have the time to wait that long for a prop.I would like to get Crispy Critter completed in time for Alliance next year and until I sell this other t-craft I can't do much.

I have a prop I might consider selling. It is a 74/45. It used to be on my first T-craft.

If it's a metal McCaully and Kevin does not want it, I'll buy it!

                          Jason,
I too will keep my eyes open for an extra prop.I have a wood prop that was flying and doing a good job but really should be checked out by a prop shop just to be safe.I told Vic I might bring it down with me to see if he wanted to take it on trade but if it is ok with Vic I can sell it to you very reasonable and just pay him in cash.

                              Re: Prop Wanted.

I like wood props, I flew the plane home from NY with a wood prop, but here in the NW it's a bit wet for wood. I also enjoy off airport operations, like gravel bars and open fields. A metal prop will last longer and provide better performance than wood.
