  • New L2M owner, new forum member.

    Hello everyone, great forum.

New forum member here and new L-2M owner! I'm very excited about the aircraft and have put nearly 20 hours on her since I found her last month.

I'm looking forward to finishing up some areas on the airplane--I have to finish the bungee covers and do some cowl paint...but she is airworthy and currently flying. Hopefully she will be at the next Oklahoma Antique Aircraft Association meeting in April at PVJ (Paul's Valley).

As of now, a strong A-65 is on the aircraft but I hold the STC for the 85. Of course, funds are limited so it will have to wait.

I'm open to any tips and tricks!

    Welcome,

As a former owner of an L-2B I know you will love your plane. As you have found, and if you have not, it is not as fast as the BC-12. A friend of mine with an 85hp L-2M found he could out-climb my 65hp BC-12 but could not keep up in level flight except near full throttle. The L-2 is a but more draggy than the BC-12. We are planning on taking his L-2 to Sun N Fun this year from Illinois.

If you have any particular questions throw them out here. There are a lot of guys who will help you.
    Cheers,
    Marty

Welcome to the site and to the world of the L-2. I have an L-2B with the C-85. Currently updating to the O200 crank. I'm in Grand Prairie, TX and hope to make it to some of the Oklahoma events this year. You should try to come to Gainsville, TX for the Texas Antique Aircraft event in October.

Thanks everyone! I found mine in North Dakota and brought her to Ardmore. It's been a fun ship to fly. Id like to make the Gainsville event--we have the Paul's Valley Fly in event this summer as well. I'll post some pictures soon. As for originality, the paint scheme is the standard 1943 version. The panel has been change to metal and the compass was lowered into the panel. No spoilers, but I have the tubing and pulleys still installed. The rear seat is more of a standard seat (non rotating).

I could use a tip on cleaning all the plexiglass--how do I reach that back corner!?

Funny thing--stopped for fuel in Columbia Nebraska (might have been Columbus--can't remember right now) and came across an L2M restoration so fresh the fabric was still drying...and boy it was 100%--spoilers, seat, emergency door release, etc.

          More later!

I used one of those handles with the microfiber cloth attached to a swivel end. I bought mine through one of the high-end auto parts places online but now they have them at Walgreens under the As Seen on TV label. It is a handle with a removeable microfiber cloth on the end. Not only works great on the car, but those hard to reach areas on the back window of the L-2.
            Cheers,
            Marty

Both Meijer Stores and Advance Auto Parts is selling a Stoner Reach & Clean tool that is similar to what I was talking about above. Price is just a few dollars and you get a free can of Stoner Invisible Glass Cleaner with purchase. The glass cleaner should not be used on our planes, but it is fantastic on car and home glass.
