    Re: L2 Down in Indiana

    For Tony when finally Gone West

    Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
    And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
    Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
    Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things
    You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung
    High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,

    I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
    My eager craft through footless halls of air.
    Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
    I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
    Where never lark, or even eagle flew -
    And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
    The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
    Put out my hand and touched the face of God.
    John Gillespie Magee, Jr.

    Here is another one for the family that is dear to my Heart for various reasons.

    When I must leave you for a little while
    Please do not grieve and shed wild tears
    And hug your sorrow to you through the years
    But start out bravely with a gallant smile;

    Reach out your hand in comfort and in cheer
    And I in turn will comfort you and hold you near;
    And never, never be afraid to die,
    For I am waiting for you in the sky!

      Re: L2 Down in Indiana

      I just picked up my son from the frat house down at the University OF SC to take him over to Owens Field (a hop skip and jump from campus) He was taken in by one of my soon to be current C-140 partners who is just as excited for him to learn to fly in it.

      Got home wife in tears worried about me letting him learn . Now read this . O boy. Will be praying for this young man and his family ....and my own decisions.

      Forrest, High Flight well known to me.. the second one you sent really seemed to hit home.. Gods peace all. getting a little teary eyed writing this.

        If a persons pathway of life is to fly then so be it!! I have lost a few and learned a lot , share it with others and of course the boy should fly if he wants too. More in a bit. I have to go plow to go fly.....

          The Indianapolis Star reports that the young man passed away this past Satuarday.

              Joe,

              So sorry for your loss. This was a tragic event. Perhaps the rebuild will help to be therapeutic for you.
