  • Wood to fuselage

    I have two questions.
    1. What is the original way to attach wood to the fuselage?
    2. What is the best way to attach wood to the fuselage?

I have found, on a wrecked hulk, some curious ribbons of "o" aluminum wrapped through the wood and tubes. Is this the way it was done?
    Thanks rocke tyler

Rocky, thatis the way it was done. They didn't have zip-ties back then. I'll call you later this afternoon. Dick

I have seen them done with strips of cotton fabric doped in place with nitrate dope. Also, I have seen this done with safety wire... stringers drilled with tiny hole for safety wire. I would consider these methods airworthy. But that's up to your I.A. who is signing off the frame to be ready for fabric.

I used safty wire when I put them back on Crispy,it had black electrical tape previously. I've seen them attached with springs, safty wire, electrical tape, glued and/or tied fabric strips, rib stitch cord, tabs welded to the fuslage and then tied or pined in place, etc, etc. I think on a lot of them it was just whatever they had to use at the time that was available.
